At the main summit of Unlocking capital for sustainability Jessica Cheam, Founder and Managing Director, Eco-Business, highlighted that no single country is on track to meet its SDG targets. She urges action to counter apathy. Asia is blessed, she said, but the blessings come with great responsibilities. Ravi Menon, Ambassador for Climate Action & Senior Adviser (National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore), says, “The only KPI that matters is what’s happening to global temperatures and greenhouse gas emissions. And it’s in Asia that the battle for climate change will be won or lost.” Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS), emphasised shared responsibility, pointing out that all of humanity is on a single boat that may yet sink or float. He believes that by setting better examples and making the necessary sacrifices, the world can win the battle against climate change. I believe that the power is in our hands! Our procurement decisions, both individually and corporately, have the potential to either elevate or mitigate the climate crisis. In our daily choices, we set trends and create demand for sustainable alternatives. By rejecting products that harm both us and the environment, we push regulators to take action, driving change from both the top down and the bottom up. It’s essential to be informed—choose to know. Read the labels, understand the supply chains behind the products we consume. Together, we must unite and advocate for a better future for our children and future generations. #Impact #Sustainability #Change #Empowerment

Events on Sustainability give a bird view perspective on global stats and whether efforts are going in the right direction. Yesterday the following facts were shared in form a quiz: 1. If we continue to consume resources the way we do now, we will need 1.7 more times of earth 2. There has been an extinction of live species 10,000 times since climate change 3. 50% of the world population lives less than 5 $ a day 4. 22 men has wealth than 54 countries of Africa 5. 1 % billion of 6.9 billion population are twice as rich than others Upon interacting with the CEO of Stewardship Asia Centre, I was informed that at present there are #800 reporting frameworks practiced in #ESG at present and there was a consensus by most delegates attending the event facing lack clarity in the roadmap and journey towards sustainability. It would help all if #frameworks of sustainable disclosure frameworks & #regulations are streamlined as the objective is one: to #co-exist with the planet. We are honoured to be featured in the Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders 2024 list for the third consecutive year. Compiled by the Financial Times and data provider Statista, HLA is among one of seven Singapore companies recognised in the list of 350 businesses. Notably, compared to last 2023, we not only reduced intensity of core emissions for Scope 1 and 2, we also improved our score. In the way forward, we will continue to innovate and explore new ways to reduce carbon emissions in our operations and products, and actively support the green transition of the built environment and transportation industries. This achievement is an affirmation of HLA’s past efforts in advancing sustainability. But more significantly, it strengthens our commitment—to work closely with our customers to develop and deliver sustainable and innovative urban solutions for cities of the future. #HLA #HLAcommitment #Sustainability #ESG #TCFD #Resilient #Reliable #Responsible #FutureReady #BuiltEnvironment #GreenBuildings

The clock is ticking and it’s time for businesses to take the lead in our fight against climate change. At The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham Singapore) SG Balestier Series 2024, I met over 150 members to discuss the critical issue of climate change. Climate change disrupts business operations, raises costs, and increases health risks, affecting productivity. The green transition is about more than just the environment—it’s about safeguarding livelihoods and building a resilient future. We spoke on the importance of Singapore’s free trade agreements, COP29 and our Singapore Green Plan which integrates both mitigation and adaptation strategies, from Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure and low-carbon hydrogen trials to coastal protection and solar panel installations. Innovation, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and clean technology, is key to achieving our sustainability goals. Businesses can future-proof themselves by adopting sustainable practices, which contributes to a stronger, more resilient economy. Whether it’s improving energy efficiency, cutting down emissions, or rethinking resource use, every sector has the power to make a difference. #COP29 #GreenEconomy #SustainabilityInBusiness #ClimateAction
