👉 Do you have a theory of change, results chain, or logic model? Do you want one? A theory of change can transform the way you understand, implement and evaluate how your work makes a difference to the people and communities you care about. This is core business at Matter of Focus- we have helped hundreds of organisations, programmes, projects and research initiatives set out a pathway to show how their work makes an impact. But there is a lot of mystique around theories of change or logic models. We break them down, using plain language and working in a way that balances simplicity and complexity so that you can make progress. If you are interested in creating, adapting or applying a theory of change to any kind of project, programme, initiative or strategy, we can help. Theories of change are the cornerstone of understanding impact and outcomes and help to track progress and tell a compelling story of if and how your work makes a difference. They also help: 😀 Ensure everyone is ready for a new change process, or to iron out partnership plans. 😀 Plan for the difference you want to make. 😀 Link activities to the outcomes and impacts you care about. 😀 Be clear to staff, stakeholders and funders how your work makes a difference to people and communities. 😀 Get everyone on the same page about what is most important about your work. 😀 Provide a framework for reflection, learning, evaluation and reporting. Our software OutNav brings theories of change to life by providing a way of holding, sharing and tracking progress across them. If you already have one this can be a great way of working with it. If you want help making, reviewing or bringing a theory of change, logic model or results chain then Matter of Focus and OutNav are for you.

New article published: ‘To invest or not to invest in digital initiatives? An exploratory examination of procedures, evaluation criteria and barriers’ I am happy to share that our recent study has appeared in the journal Digital Transformation and Society (DTS), Emerald Publishing. We offer a novel perspective on investment appraisal in the context of digital investments. Our research enhances the understanding of digital investment evaluation, by (i) developing an exploratory conceptual framework of potential qualitative evaluation criteria and (ii) providing an in-depth and detailed understanding of the barriers to implementing investment appraisal methods. Explore the full article here (open access): https://lnkd.in/eryT4Yyp Special thanks to my co-authors Julian Kappl and Dennis Schlegel and to EIC Prof. Robin Qiu, the whole DTS team as well as the anonymous reviewers for their valuable and thorough feedback.

To me, Systems Thinking seems a fundamental (and too often rare) skillset for effective management and improvement of complex and (hopefully!) integrated product support (IPS or ILS) solutions... to the point it amazed me how many ILS/IPS practitioners resist even considering applying system lifecycle management principles/knowledge/tools of the System Engineering community of practice. IMHO, For most aerospace and defense systems, its not the product but the support of it for decades that is the true "system engineering" challenge!! Your thoughts, comrades?

https://lnkd.in/ex8H-_h4 is a document on knowledge management that Semantic Arts, Inc. contributed to. Please discuss. As we extend from incorporating the FAIR Principles and knowledge graphs based on data in RDF with explicit semantics described in OWL we need to think about what it all means, and how we can express and distribute this knowledge within and beyond our enterprises

Sociotechnical micro-foundations for digital transformation The micro-foundations concept (Felin, Foss, Teece and others) is useful for understanding how collective organizational phenomena, such as digital transformation, have their origins in individuals’ actions and interactions. However, this body of knowledge lacks a technical aspect, which is unfortunate as digital transformation unquestionably involves a series of complex relations between the social and the technical – between competent individuals and digital resources. To remedy this, Bendik Bygstad and I have conceptualized sociotechnical micro-foundations, to emphasize that micro-foundations for digital transformation should cover both social and technological capabilities. The concept highlights how the macro-level capabilities that enable organisations to conduct digital transformation originate from competent individuals, digital resources, and their interactions. You can find out more about sociotechnical micro-foundations in our paper in European Journal of Information Systems. https://lnkd.in/darhnrtH
