One of our Conveyance Systems crews worked through the night along Old Wrightsboro Road to minimize business disruptions and reduce public exposure. Switching to night operations allowed us to prioritize safety while constructing a 24” force main and installing a 12” water line. We’re proud of our team’s commitment to meeting the community’s needs safely and efficiently. #CoveyanceSystems #NightWork #ForceMain #LovingLife

No Falls Week! Hierarchy of Risk - Collective Fall Protection Accessing rooftop areas is often unavoidable and it is crucial to mitigate the risks to both staff and the public whenever possible. Collective fall protection often refers to handrail/guardrail systems however it is an ever-growing sector with the inclusion of such elements as skylight guard rail systems. It is the highest form of working at height protection which does not require training or active end user input. These systems are designed to give permanent edge protection where regular access for maintenance is required without the necessity for additional end user PFPE. #CollectiveEdgeProtection #NoFallsWeek #FallProtection #WorkingAtHeight #Handrail #Skylights #HeightSafety #Higherachyofrisk #safetyfirst

As a younger firefighter, I first heard the phrase, "200 years of tradition unimpeded by progress". And, while there definitely is a kernel of truth with this, it's also obviously inaccurate. Yes, pride and ownership and history and heritage are important, and the love of our community never goes out of style. But, we aren't stuck in the past. Consider hose loads. Back in the day, everything was a flat load. Then the minuteman came around. Hi-rise packs, horseshoe, whatever variants thereof... Airpacks and bunker gear have changed. RIT is now a standard thing (is an ambulance?). Mayday drills. Top mount pump panels. Color-coordinated hoses. The list goes on. The point is that the Fire Service actually embraces improvement and innovation. At the core of the Fire Service is serving its community, realizing that what works for Chicago Fire might not work for Smallville VFD, and vice versa (big water in Chicago means hitting another hydrant, versus tanker shuttles and drafting from a pond). So, all this talk about process mapping, elimination of wastes, continuous improvement mindset, etc., are completely in-line with the history and traditions of the Fire Service. I can see it. Can you? #Firefighter #EMS

June is Trench Safety Month! Did you know the most serious hazard in trench work is a cave-in? If the sides of a trench collapse, workers can be killed or severely injured. 🔺 On average, 30 people are killed from trench accidents every year. 🔺 Over 1000 people are injured annually in trench accidents. 🔺 90% of these accidents are due to improperly safeguarded trenches. At ELM Utility Services, we prioritize safety: 🔸 Our employees are prohibited from entering trenches deeper than 4 feet. 🔸 Employee training and reinforcement are crucial for reducing risks in our industry. Remember: 👉 One cubic yard of dirt can weigh 3,000 pounds or more! 👉 Avoid walking or standing near trenches and open excavations to prevent slipping, tripping, or falling. Stay safe and vigilant! #TrenchSafetyMonth #SafetyFirst #ConstructionSafety #StaySafe
