I know I posted a #healthcare cybersecurity data breach last week but another one has hit the news today with Omni Family health. I can't stress enough about the increase in cyberattacks on Healthcare organizations. They have valuable data that hackers want to sell on the #darkweb. Omni Family Health is a #nonprofit organization that provides healthcare services to communities in California, focusing on underserved populations. The organization discovered the security breach on August 7, 2024, following claims that information was taken from its systems and leaked on the dark web. The company promptly launched an investigation into the incident with the help of external cybersecurity specialists. The Hunters International #ransomware gang claimed responsibility for the attack. The group claimed to have stolen 2.7 terabytes of data and listed the organization on its Tor leak site, releasing the stolen information on August 23. Blackswan Cybersecurity offers customizable cybersecurity MDR service whether you are a 10 person healthcare organization or a 1,000+ employee organization. Its not a matter of "If" but when you will experience a cyber attack. #databreach #cyberattack #identityprotection #PII #CISA #CISO

Hey Y'all! I have been posting about data breaches when I see them, and here's another one.... A recent cyberattack on Michigan Medicine potentially exposed the personal health information of 58,000 patients, highlighting the growing threat to healthcare data security. This was from one employee email that accepted an unsolicited authentication prompt and was compromised. According to the investigation performed, some emails and attachments contained identifiable patient information, including names, medical record numbers, and diagnostic and treatment information, officials said. Michigan Medicine is in the process of notifying any patient affected by the breach. Breaches like this underscore the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in health care settings. Health care professionals must ensure their practices are protected through regular system audits, updated security protocols, and staff training to safeguard sensitive patient information. Take action now: review your cybersecurity strategies and reinforce your data protection efforts. Please share/repost if you feel others will benefit from this information. #HealthcareCybersecurity #PatientPrivacy #DataSecurity #HIPAACompliance #DataBreach #CHCS https://lnkd.in/eGpSFhFA

In an eye-opening piece by Reed Abelson and Margot Sanger-Katz in the New York Times, the cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the U.S. healthcare system are laid bare through the lens of the recent Change Healthcare attack. This incident serves as a stark reminder that cybersecurity in healthcare transcends data protection—it's a matter of life and death. Key takeaways include: Ransomware attacks in healthcare are alarmingly routine, underscoring systemic weaknesses. Patient safety is jeopardized, not just privacy, with attacks leading to treatment disruptions and increased mortality rates. The cycle of ransomware payouts only empowers further attacks. The healthcare sector's reliance on outdated systems and a fragmented regulatory landscape makes it an easy target. Solutions may involve federal intervention with stringent mandates and a reevaluation of how cybersecurity insurance is structured. This call to action emphasizes the urgent need for a paradigm shift in how the healthcare industry addresses cybersecurity. As cybersecurity professionals, we have a pivotal role in guiding this transformation.
