To all the owners of Uber, Ola, inDrive & Rapido it's high time you acknowledge the rampant issues plaguing your platforms, It is with great disappointment and frustration that I must address the appalling behavior exhibited by bike riders on your platforms. The way they are handling and manipulating normal users is absolutely intolerable and unacceptable. We, the users, are constantly facing various issues with regards to booking and payment. It has become a recurring nightmare where riders engage in deceitful tactics to extort more money from us: First and foremost, they confirm the booking at the price displayed in the app, later demand a higher amount or threaten to cancel the ride altogether. Secondly, they confirm the booking, arrive at the pick-up point, and then demand additional payment before providing the service. Lastly, they confirm the booking, drop us off at the destination, and then riders demand extra payment, even though the fare was agreed upon. All of these actions are carried out without canceling the ride in the app. It is infuriating and utterly frustrating for us, the users, to be subjected to such deceitful tactics. The excuse provided by the riders, citing discrepanices in the app's displayed fare. Well, if that is the case, then either adjust the fare accordingly or shut down the app altogether. It is absolutely unacceptable to play with users' trust and manipulate the system for personal gain. We are forced to endure these infuriating encounters on a daily basis, and it is taking a toll on our patience and sanity. This behavior must stop, and it is imperative that you, as the owners of these platforms, take swift and decisive action to address these issues. #EnoughIsEnough #FairTreatmentForUsers #TransparencyMatters

On a recent trip to Calcutta, I discovered a new cab booking app called inDrive, known for its unique bidding feature. Here is how the app works: ➡ I offered a price I was willing to pay (INR 200) ➡️ Two drivers then sent bids – in this case, 220 and 230 ➡️ I chose the 220 bid, and the cab arrived promptly! Another time, when I quoted 250, the cab drivers quoted in excess of 300. The app allowed me to raise the bid and then the cab drivers bid again. This went on till the two parties agreed 😀 The best part: once the drivers make a bid and I accept, cancellations do not occur due to the driver's commitment. Today, with Ola and Uber, the driver has no control over the fare. That's why they complain so much. In inDrive's case, if they offered 220 and you agreed, they cannot ask for more when you sit in the cab. The downside is that bidding and counter-bidding can be time-consuming if you're in a hurry. However, you can always accept the first (higher) bid to hasten the process. On talking to the driver, I realised that the commission that inDrive charges is 10% today. According to the driver, this is significantly lower than the commission charged by Uber and Ola. That's why drivers are willing to work with inDrive. Two weeks back, I came across the app. Yesterday, I saw their ad featuring Vikrant Massey. The link is in the comment. Do watch it. What do you think about inDrive's bidding feature? Have you tried it? Would you like to try it? Could this lead to better cab availability? #inDrive #marketing #ridesharing

Why You Might Want to Be on Time for Your Next Ride In some on-demand services, reviews go both ways. Take a ride-hailing platform: Users can rate drivers who provide an unsatisfactory service with less than five stars, and drivers can also give a lower rating to users who showed up late at the meeting point. https://lnkd.in/g2enxGJj

Looking for a ride-hailing service that won't break the bank? Look no further than Empower! Their suggested rates are around 20% lower than Uber and Lyft, even during surge periods. Plus, you can request a rider of the same gender and favorite drivers, without fear of account deactivation for going with any specific driver, or working something out longer term, especially useful for commuters. Interested in learning more? Head to https://lnkd.in/ekS-rjfs or find the app in the Apple or Google app store. Drivers are welcome to sign up too! Use promo code 7QJD6T for a few dollars off your first few rides. When an Uber Ride Turns Into a Bidding War! As a PM (and a frequent Uber user), I encounter interesting moments during rides. Today, here’s one for the books: Driver: “Amount low. 150. I’m coming.” Me: “But the app says 10?” Driver: “Drop location 6 km. 150 ok. Last price 140.” Negotiations like this make me feel like I’m at a #street market instead of booking a ride through a #global app! While this might bring a chuckle to some, it’s a genuine #pain point for users. No one likes the #surprise of fare #negotiations after already agreeing to a price in the app. It erodes trust and makes us question: What happened to the seamless convenience of ride-hailing? What’s the solution, Uber ? 1. Driver Commitment to App Prices: Enforce stricter penalties for drivers who demand additional money or cancel due to fare disagreements. 2. Transparent Driver Communication: Before accepting a ride, drivers should be fully aware of the price, destination, and conditions to avoid renegotiations mid-journey. 3. Easy User Reporting: Simplify reporting for fare disagreements and make follow-ups faster. 4. Real-Time Fare Dispute Resolution: Introduce in-app support for resolving fare disputes on the spot, reducing the need for post-ride frustration. 5. Driver Education: Conduct regular workshops or training for drivers on customer-centric behavior and the value of sticking to platform standards. At the end of the day, we’re here for #convenience, not for re-enacting #bargaining scenes from movies. Let’s bring back the Uber smooth experience! After we are hooked to these services or products, things like this feel so bad. We already agree to pay a higher price for a better experience. But, we end up paying even more with a poor experience. PoV: Give your team an autonomy, but ye kaisi autonomy hai 😅😅 Have you experienced this too? What changes would you suggest to improve the ride-hailing experience? Share your thoughts below! #ProductManagement #UberSmoothExperience #GoneCharm #PainPoint #Learning #AspiringPM

***A Call for Better Driver & Customer Experience!*** . . . I’ve had a couple of OLA rides in the last two days and encountered something concerning that I’d like to share. In both cases, the drivers were visibly frustrated upon arrival due to issues related to clarity on their earnings and discrepancies in the kilometers shown to them compared to the actual distance. To my surprise, when I checked the distance on my app, it was showing a much longer route than the original distance I knew. It seems the algorithm was suggesting the longest possible route, causing confusion and frustration for both the driver and the customer. I believe this raises a few key challenges: For Drivers: Lack of clarity on earnings post-deductions, and a mismatch in the kilometers shown to them vs. the actual distance driven. For Customers: Being shown longer routes in the app, leading to unnecessary fare increases. Solutions: 1- *Provide clear communication* to drivers about earnings after deductions. 2- *Use a more accurate route algorithm* to ensure both drivers and customers see consistent, realistic distances. Could you implement an option for customers to choose a preferred route when booking the ride? Bhavish Aggarwal , Ola, kindly look into this and resolve these issues for a better experience. #CustomerExperience #RideHailing #OlaCabs #DriverSupport #AlgorithmFix

Sometimes the solutions we build slowly morph into the very problems we set out to solve. Remember how the ride-hailing apps promised to eliminate bargaining with auto drivers? Fascinating to see how that core problem is making a comeback, just in a more sophisticated / digitalized form. Open Namma Yatri or Rapido, and you'll get an option to add a tip to increase your chances of getting a booking. While it is an optional feature, it’s slowly becoming table stakes for getting a ride. The interesting part is that the suggested tip(s) isn't uniform. Some people might get it in the multiple of 10s, and some in the multiple of 30s. In my opinion, it might depend on a few factors like the location, the duration of the ride, the time of booking, etc. But what's concerning is that users who've paid higher tips before report rarely getting rides at base fare anymore. Earlier you bargained after seeing your driver. Now you bargain with an algorithm. Funny.

This is what happens when a stop-gap solution (ride-hailing apps) lasts too long without any government intervention in the transport solution to take them to the next level (e.g., robotaxis, fixing public transport, improving pedestrian safety, and so on).
