June is just around the corner which means it’s the beginning of Pride month in Finland! 🌈 DEI stands for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, so what better way to acknowledge the beginning of pride month than with a bit of an update on our efforts. 🙏🏽 — Visma Finland’s DEI Taskforce was created to support our people with various backgrounds and the development of being a good & safe workplace for everyone. Our DEI Taskforce was kicked off in October 2021 and we are happy that the taskforce started by a few people is growing every year. Now we are already 10 individuals from 4 different Visma companies, working towards shared goals. 💛 The role of the taskforce is to pinpoint areas for improvement on the Visma Finland level and also follow global DEI trends in our industry. We also provide guidance to our companies and encourage everyone to consider their thinking and actions in different situations. Last year we produced short videos to social media about diversity and inclusion in Visma and coached our team leaders about unconscious bias and diversity. This year we have been gathering views about the current situation and promoting DEI themes bit by bit. We also had help from a skilled Management Trainee Jasmine, who created materials for our companies and individuals to use for promoting DEI. We also had an Inspirational Talk (meaning a keynote speech which is open to everyone working for Visma Finland), with Dakota Robin about inclusivity and unconscious bias. Lately we have been discussing ways of making our talent acquisition more inclusive to get more diverse talent in Visma Finland and gathering ideas on how to support DEI internally. In addition to the fact that we have done a lot of work at Visma in terms of raising awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion and making sure that these themes are present in our everyday life, we are also aware that we are not perfect yet. 🏆 The Benefits of Friendly Competition: What We Learned from Our Team Event!🏆 Recently, our team got together for a day of friendly competition, and it taught us a lot about working together. Here's what we found out: 1️⃣ Stay Focused: When we're competing, we pay more attention and try harder. This helps us do better in both the competition and our regular work. 2️⃣ Be Friends: Even though we're competing, we still support each other. Cheering for our teammates and celebrating their wins makes us feel like a stronger team. 3️⃣ Learn and Grow: Competition pushes us to do our best, even when it's tough. When we win, it feels great, but even when we don't, we learn something new that helps us get better next time. 4️⃣ Feel Good: Competing is exciting! It makes us happy and boosts our energy. That positive feeling sticks around and makes our workdays better too. 5️⃣ Work Together: Through competition, we get to know each other better. We learn what we're good at and where we can help each other, making us a stronger team overall. I had 21 kilometers to think about online and offline community building. :D Last weekend, I had the privilege of participating in the Bijlmer Half-Marathon in Amsterdam. More than just a race, it was a celebration of community and connection—a testament to the unifying power of shared goals and collective enthusiasm. Bijlmer simply showed up: as a vibrant, diverse community. 🎉 This event showcased the area's passion, pride, and unity, highlighting the potential of thoughtful engagement to transform a neighborhood’s reputation positively. Throughout the race, I could detect the sense of community. 21 kilometers are long, so I had a lot of time to think about how this event can teach us successful online community-building strategies in the digital sphere. My key takeaways are: 1️⃣ Shared Purpose: Just as the marathon had the goal of enhancing Bijlmer’s reputation and community spirit, brands should cultivate online platforms around shared interests or values. This fosters a sense of belonging and purpose among their users. 2️⃣ Inclusivity: The event welcomed participants and supporters from all parts of the neighborhood and beyond, much like how effective online communities invite diverse perspectives and foster inclusive conversations. 3️⃣ Active Engagement: The organizers actively engaged with participants, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and support. In the digital space, brands need to engage actively with their online communities, responding to feedback and participating in discussions to build a vibrant community. 4️⃣ Celebration of Local Culture: The event celebrated local culture and pride, similar to how brands can use their platforms to highlight unique aspects they stand for or community contributions, enhancing their authenticity and appeal. The Bijlmer Run serves as a brilliant example of how real-world community engagement strategies can be effectively translated to the digital space, enhancing both reputation and community cohesion. It’s a clear reminder that at the heart of every community, whether online or on the streets, are the connections and experiences that bring us together. Should we laugh or cry?  😂 😭 The peak of nonsense is reached by an ESG reporting consultancy. 😇 😈 In the same post, it promotes transparency on the environmental impact of its clients and takes its own employees on a plane trip to a low-cost, hyper-tourist destination.  We live in a world of contradictory injunctions. 😂 😭 When I scroll through articles on organic and sustainable products on Instragram, I receive adverts for Shein, Alibaba and Temu. 😇 😈 I'd be curious to know the personal impact on employees' CO2 emissions, the content of their own CSR report, and what employees think of it.  One piece of advice: - do what you promote, - be creative and give your employees a break from the office. August is Rotary International's Membership month. What is #rotaryinternational? It is a membership organization that does the world’s best service. Why do we want to grow Rotary? To have more hands and hearts to do more good in the world through serving others. So how do we grow #Rotary? For sustainable growth, we need to take a wholistic approach, which involves three distinct strategies: 1. Attract new members and add them to our existing #rotaryclubs; 2. Retain members in our existing clubs, by engaging them in impactful service projects, both local and international; and 3. Form new clubs, for those who want to serve others in different ways than our current clubs do. That’s it - all we need to do! However, we need to employ all three strategies at the same time. There is one other thing we need to keep in mind as we implement these strategies - the club experience/club culture. It affects all three stratagies. Club culture is the way a club operates. If things are going smoothly in a club, the club’s culture is a source of strength. If things are not going smoothly, that club's culture likely needs shifting to realize a different result. If a club's culture is good, it makes it easier for that club to attract new members and retain its existing members. If a club's culture is bad, its members will need to change the club's culture to increase its membership, or form a new/additional club with a culture that fits better with those who are not happy in the current club.
