This years' Giving Tuesday is upon us. For some the idea of "giving" feels daunting or something that "other people do." I offer an alternative view on how to start, continue or reinvigorate your own habit of giving starting today. 1 - Give to causes you already put your efforts to. Few things are more satisfying than putting our time, talent and resources in the same place. Alignment is good for the soul. 2 - Give to causes you want to support but aren't able to put your efforts into. As a working mom, wife and caregiver, often my time is not my own. I can only be in so many places but my reach can be so much more in the ways I support causes. My giving is an extension of my heart. 3 - Give to causes you want to learn more about. So much impacts our lives that we might not feel directly in our day-to-day activities. Where can you begin a habit of contribution to satisfy a need and provide yourself with a widened view? Very early in my career, a wise & caring man named Philippus Miller III told me "Philanthropy is not something one arrives at, like a destination. It's a way of life." Boy was he right. Giving is a habit that is a part of what I consider the core of any servant leaders heart. We serve not just in one area but in every area we feel called to do so.
