Christmas came early for passengers travelling to and from Stoneleigh Station, Epsom as they can now travel easier in and around the station following the completion of the Access for All upgrade on time for Network Rail, for passengers to enjoy. Our rail team have transformed the station which was originally built in the 1930s into a more user-friendly station, improving the passenger experience in particular for people travelling with young children, older people, with health conditions of disabilities. The project features a new covered footbridge, with three associated lifts, providing step-free access to the central platform via lifts or stairs from both sides of the station. The upgrade also includes a new modern ticket office on the island platform, enhanced lighting, security cameras, and canopy works to provide a safer environment for users from both sides of the line from Stoneleigh Broadway on the east and Station Approach, off Stoneleigh Park Road, to the west. The Access for All programme, supported by Network Rail in partnership with the Department for Transport (DfT), aims to remove barriers to travel by creating accessible routes into stations and between platforms. Enhanced accessibility also supports the local economy, reduces car journeys, and contributes to lower congestion and carbon emissions. Read more about the completion of this important project and our portfolio of access for all projects on our website https://lnkd.in/ecGxdpac Well done and thank you to everyone involved! Isayas T. 🚶♀️🚴♂️ Building Safer, Smarter, and Sustainable Cities 🌍 I recently came across the Church Fields Link Road & Cycle Network project by RPS Group, and as I delved into the details, I was struck by the brilliance of its Dutch-style approach to urban mobility. This project isn’t just about creating a road or a cycle network—it’s about redefining how we design for safety, sustainability, and inclusivity. What truly resonated with me is how the project separates pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, ensuring safety for all road users while reducing potential conflicts at junctions. The focus on providing safe and accessible active travel facilities aligns closely with the ideas I explored in my dissertation, “The Behavioral Change for Active Travel and Mitigating Car Dependency.” Projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful design can shift behaviours, decrease car dependency, and encourage active travel. They pave the way for communities to thrive by prioritising people over vehicles—a vision I’m deeply passionate about. Reading about this project reaffirms my belief that innovation doesn’t always mean new; sometimes, it means adopting best practices, like Dutch-style infrastructure, and tailoring them to local contexts. I’d love your thoughts on how active travel infrastructure can shape a more sustainable future. Are there other projects you’ve seen that inspire similar change? Let’s connect and share ideas! #UrbanDesign #ActiveTravel #Sustainability #DutchStyleInnovation

Do you enjoy riding the train? For me, there's something truly magical about the journey from the suburbs to downtown Chicago and back. Watching the serene suburban landscape slowly transform into the dynamic city skyline is a treat for the eyes. It's a reminder of the beauty of nature and the remarkable talents and hard work that go into constructing our urban environments. Taking the train is not just about reaching a destination; it's a rejuvenating experience for the mind and soul. Instead of battling traffic, you get to sit back, relax, and reflect. It's a rare opportunity to feel connected to your surroundings and let your thoughts flow freely. How about you? What's your favorite #train route, and what do you enjoy most about it? #chicagosuburbs #urbanplanning #realestatedevelopment #worklifebalance

The Big Green Commute starts today! SK&A Structural Engineers is delighted to join forces with ZGF Architects and others in the DC region on a week-long commuting challenge. “The competition was founded on the belief that change can be affected at a personal and community level. The competition coincides with Bike to Work Week and incentivizes commutes via walking and biking but also rewards participants for carpooling, taking public transportation, or driving electric vehicles.” (biggreencommute.com) Kudos to Asst. Project Manager Sebastian Jongerius, PE for leading the charge at our SK&A DC office! #BigGreenCommute #GreenEngineers #StructuralEngineers #SustainableEngineers #CommutingChallenge #BiketoWorkWeek #GreenTransportation #SustainableCommute #EnvironmentalAwareness #GreenCommuting #CommunityEngagement #SustainableLiving #ReduceEmissions #GoGreen #EcoFriendly #HealthyLiving #GreenMobility #CleanTransportation #PublicTransit #Carpooling #MakeADifference
