Great advice from Sacha for any industry. Make CIC started as a small studio for 5 friends. Too often I see would-be entrepreneurs or founders who only have eyes for the finished product. It’s foolish. The best thing you can do is start doing something, small, managed risk, expect to be adaptable, be responsive to opportunities and most of all just get on with something/anything. There is a difference between having a vision and being delusional.

Parklife started as a one-day student festival for a few thousand people. The Warehouse Project started as a few parties we threw because we wanted to do something different. My advice for people early in their events careers…don’t trip yourself up by trying to run before you’ve walked. Work your way up, get things wrong, change them and then get something completely different wrong the next time. You’ve got plenty of time to get things right.

It’s about that time of year when families reach out to me with questions about walking on to a college team. Often, student-athletes consider this option when they’ve been admitted to their dream college but failed to receive the recruiting interest they anticipated, fostering the hope that they can earn a spot later on. What most families don’t realize is that these types of walk-on opportunities are rare, and even when they are presented, might not be ideal for a student-athlete’s holistic development. Learn more about the difference between a typical walk-on and a preferred walk-on here. #walkon #collegeathletics #collegesports #athleticrecruiting #collegesportscounselor #recruitingadvisor https://lnkd.in/e99vsDQZ

Not Being Challenged As an honors student in Strayer University's Honors Program, I've had the privilege of earning Presidential List recognition for each of my six quarters. I’m also a proud member of Phi Theta Kappa, the SCLA, and NSCS. These achievements reflect my dedication and passion for academic excellence. Yet, despite these accolades, I find myself wrestling with a recurring thought: Am I truly being challenged? I’ve compared the curriculum at Strayer to that of other top schools in America, and academically, it’s on par. However, I can’t shake the feeling that the coursework doesn’t push me to my limits. It leads me to question: Is my institution not meeting me where I am intellectually, or have I reached a point where I need to seek an environment that offers greater stimulation and challenge? I believe education should ignite curiosity and foster growth, not just in knowledge but in critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. If we’re not feeling stretched, are we really reaching our full potential? For those of you who have experienced a similar crossroads in your academic journey, how did you navigate it? Did you find ways to make the most of your existing program, or did you seek out new challenges elsewhere? I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice.

I stumbled across my original cover letter from 15 March 2017 when I first applied to Elsby 🗓 ✨ It read: "Elsby attracts me because of the smaller nature of the firm with large ambitions and the support and emphasis given to employees to become all-rounded individuals. The care for clients is as important as employees, and the focus on personal as well as professional development shows me an ambitious firm that I would be proud to be part of." ⌛ Seven years later, I am excited to say that my observations have held true. Elsby has consistently demonstrated its commitment to growth, and my career journey is great proof of that, as well as that of others around me. It’s been a remarkable journey, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of this team. 🌱 At Elsby, our core values shape our interactions with clients and guide our internal culture. One of these values, 'Investing in Growth', emphasises the importance of dedicating time, effort, and energy to achieve meaningful and rewarding outcomes. 🚀 Although these values weren't explicitly defined when I first started, Ann Phillips has played a key role in helping us develop and articulate them. I am grateful to have witnessed this value in action and the positive impact it has had. 📽️ Watch the video below if you want to hear more from me, my journey, and thoughts on Elsby! 📽️ #InvestingInGrowth #CareerJourney #ProudToBePartOfIt #ProfessionalDevelopment #ClientCare #EmployeeGrowth #Throwback #7YearsAndCounting
Find out why Libby Shambrook ACA thought she'd never go into accounting following on from a disastrous work experience placement and how things have changed for her working at Elsby Chartered Accountants, in our new video 🔦 Work experience is something we value here at Elsby, it's so important for finding out more about yourself, finding out what inspires you, give you the chance to come up with career ideas and try them out and allows you to discover your strengths, values, motivations and interests! Last year we had two fabulous students spend a week with us (one of which is joining us as an apprentice later this summer!😁) and this year, we're thrilled to be welcoming more students into the office. You'll get to hear all about their experiences with us as we put them to work on writing us a blog ✍️ Watch this space! #recruitment #workexperience https://lnkd.in/e--8FJyz

Think about the last time you were part of an organizational change. I'm certain you cringed 😫 Whether a transformation, reorganization, strategic direction, or other reason, change brings apprehension and concern. What makes a difference? The people and how they are involved throughout the process. Here are a few items each role can do to make a difference. ⭐ Leaders: Provide clarity of direction, ensure people have what they need to be successful, empower people to be a part of the change. ⭐ Employees: Get involved as earliest as possible to create a sense of ownership and build advocacy. ⭐ Customers: Inform direction and provide feedback along the way (even better if they are embedded into the process). It's inspiring to see Austin Community College's Theory of Change first hand. The leaders have been clear in direction and communication, and also humble in adjusting and sharing what they don't know yet. The employees are part of designing the strategic direction and are getting radical transparency. Students have been involved from the beginning to provide their perspective. No change is ever perfect. Listening and continually improving help to make necessary shifts to stay focused on the vision. And people help each other keep going. Grateful for all the wonderful people at Austin Community College that I've met and have a chance to work with! What helps keep you focused and engaged during an organizational change? #changemanagement #organizationalchange #highereducation #peoplefirst

I'm so delighted that we have members from every division of Austin Community College Student Experience and Outcomes represented across Theory of Change Design Teams: Career, Student Impact & Outcomes, Student Life, Transfer, and even the admin support team (me!). I'm probably biased, but I truly believe that student experience and outcomes is a team within our College with a culture that truly lives the values of courage, compassion, joy, and yes. I know each of these people loves our students deeply and is ready to redesign this college so that our students feel that love every step of the way. I am so proud of my SE&O colleagues and can't wait to see what magic they bring to each team lucky enough to have them!
