The Soo Locks, Welland Canal and Montreal-Lake Ontario sections of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System open today, signaling the start of our 2024 navigation season. It’s a day to celebrate marine shipping – the most efficient, cost-effective and sustainable mode for moving cargo.🛳 Each year, Great Lakes ships transport the equivalent of over 11 million truckloads, doing so at a fraction of the carbon intensity compared to trucks or trains. Marine shipping reduces traffic congestion and fuel consumption dramatically, while also decreasing wear on our highways. It supports more than $50 billion USD in economic activity throughout North America, plus approximately 357,000 jobs. More than 252 million tons of vital commodities – the raw materials of everyday life – move across the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Waterway. Our port is where that waterway begins and ends. 📷: David Schauer

The 2024 St Lawrence-Great Lakes shipping season officially starts today with the opening of the Welland Canal. Marine shipping is the most efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable mode for moving cargo, achieving 558 per cent lower GHG emissions than trucking, and carrying the same amount of cargo in one season as 7.1 million truck trips. It also supports $66.1 Billion in economic activity throughout North America, approximately 360,000 jobs, and moves 252 million tonnes of vital commodities that are key to maintaining quality of life.

I am indebted to Paul Nash for making this known to us who deal with and manage what are now known as HRB’s. Paul Nash has been instrumental in a #quality report by the #CIOB following the Edinburgh School disaster. It seems that industry didn’t learn and neither did the whole chain from #client to #Architect #contractor #subcontactor & #supplier about #quality and price. I urge you to read the report look at the debate and stop, think, and do the right thing. #buildingsafety

Integrity?? attached here as described from a forefather of business mindset. To me Integrity, for clients of course is easy to describe. BUT what about the other forms of relationships our social profiles touch? AND why does OUR integrity matter to THOSE people? Again to me… It means leaving your ego in the truck while we navigate how to support not only our direct work team, but others teams around us. YES 🙌 Asphalt is a tough business but does that mean we HAVE to be tough against other’s teams? The drum beat of we are better then everyone else, to me, feels a little old hat 🎩… We certainly don’t need to be tough minded against the teams outside of our market. In this modern age that could actually backfire more then inspire… I mean… How could that look from a large manufacturer’s position who wants to step into affiliate sales with successful social profiles? Would they rule out negative posts in search of more supportive content and engagement? That’s not something I’m sure of but it is something that could potentially interfere. I believe there’s a few great examples set by individuals people like Marvin Joles and business owners like Ryan Austin on boosting the industry with a overall sense of common decency, which for many others like them, boils down to common sense. Helping 🙌 hands attract more then a closed 👊 fist. So when I see attacking or overly boastful content it pales in comparison to the way I’ve seen the industry change since 2005. Another great guy, Cisco Barron had a post the other day about, (paraphrasing here), when we find ourselves in “envy” that may mean we have some work to do on ourselves, and that really reminded me of a time, not that long ago that I couldn’t look at others success the way I do now. If I’M winning, YOU’RE winning! And vice versa… We aren’t all that different. The industry gets stronger when we link hands 🤝and support the industry movement toward a more positive and YES still tough future 🎯
