Absolutely! Mock interviews: the secret sauce for transforming nervousness into confidence! 🎤✨
But my approach to this was a bit more different. When I relocated to my home country two years ago, I knew no one, had no connections and needed a job to support myself, but thankfully I was not as desperate and took it rather slow and steady with the ultimate patience. 😅 At 22, without any corporate or professional experience, I quickly realized that nailing the interview was key to securing a position, regardless of my background.
Having never faced a professional interview— my only experience being the English speaking test during my IGCSEs—I knew I had to improve my skills. I started searching for interview tips online, but nothing clicked for me. So, I decided to apply to various most random jobs, just to get interview exposure—yes, just for the exposure! 😂
I gained a newfound appreciation for the hard work recruiters do to source candidates and schedule interviews. While I was playing around to gain experience, I felt a mix of sympathy for recruiters and pride in my determination. Ultimately, out of the thirty jobs I applied for, I secured six interview calls. Each experience was unique, and I received offers from four of them—but none were the roles I truly wanted, so I declined.
However, at this point this process built my confidence and honed my skills, allowing me to eventually apply for positions I was genuinely interested in ... and viola, I found the job I was looking for, Alhamdulillah!
In conclusion, whether you’re facing your first interview or your fiftieth, remember: every opportunity is a chance to learn and grow. A mock interview today could lead you to your dream job tomorrow! 🚀✨

Interviews have gotten out of control at some orgs:
(1) Excessive interviews and excessive demands about projects and prompts that are not well thought out
(2) Team members invited to interview a candidate without even knowing why they are there
(3) Inviting team members who have no visibility or interaction with that role in any way.
Make interviews short, meaningful, and quick. Pleasantries are nice, but cut to the chase and see if the candidate is the right technical and cultural fit.

Long processes can scare off great candidates.
Start with a quick chat, then get the key decision-makers together.
Aim for just 2 or 3 interviews.
A faster process keeps candidates interested and shows you’re excited to hire them.

Long process interviews can be helpful in some situations but they are not a fit for all roles.
Conducting a long process for a PM role where a director and CPO are involved is a waste of resources and shows that the org has a loose structure with competing levels of interest.
They also pressure the candidate to become *too* creative to make an impact where frankly it is not needed.

Hiring managers, stop helping people perform badly in interviews...👀
Standardising the interview medium (in-person or video) for all candidates or at different stages of the process will level the playing field for all candidates in terms of evaluation.
You might not consciously realise it, but certain candidates might be performing better at an interview simply because the interview medium is setting them up for success. 🤷♀️
There's no doubt video interviews are convenient and quick, but what is that convenience costing your job search in the long run?

💡Should candidates be compensated for their ideas during the interview process?
💭 Ideas are among the most valuable outputs we create. During interviews, candidates are often asked to solve real-world problems—an exercise that blurs the line between evaluation and contribution.
Should companies rethink how they approach interviews? What do you think?
#UXResearch#InterviewEthics#DesignThinking#CareerFairness#IdeasMatter
Interviews should be two-way.
Candidates thrive when they feel engaged in the process, not just having to 'perform' in an unnatural, one-way coding interview.
Job interviews are not just an evaluation; when done right they are a two-way street, where both parties are assessing fit.

What is the worst interview you have ever conducted?
The emphasis is typically on how candidates perform in interviews.
But in 2024, candidates are much more selective and expect to be impressed by their interviewer.
We ALL perform poorly at times.
But now more than ever I would encourage you to try and smash every single interview you conduct.
Make sure you're prepared, selling the benefits effectively, asking great questions etc.
Because if you have a great candidate in front of you, you don't want to risk losing them because they weren't blown away!
If you'd like any advice on this, please feel free to drop me a message.

Time is of the essence when it comes to the interview process. As the saying goes, "time kills all deals." If you find that candidates are accepting offers before your interviews are finished, it may be time to reevaluate the number of interviews required for a given role.
Remember, you're likely not the only company a prospect is interviewing with. Keep this in mind as you streamline your hiring process.
