It's been widely believed that February-March is the most stressful period for the Finance Teams due to the heavy workload with year-end audits and reporting. My perception has always been different. On the contrary, I am convinced that October-November period usually brings more complicated and pressing tasks, such as: quarter reporting, interim audit, year-end forecasting, budgeting. Do you agree with it? How do you and your teams cope with the challenges? My response is: 1. reduce time spent on intellectual hobbies such as reading and learning languages and prioritize physical activities 2. promise yourself and your teams time for early December retreat. Share your thoughts and ideas please

Time. As a leader working in Finance there’s rarely enough. Everybody wants a piece of you and, whilst flattering, it can be never ending and exhausting. That’s why it can be hard to get your own priorities to the top of the list. So for you, the person, it's often the reason your challenges, conundrums or self-development take a back seat. But there is a time for that's for you - it just requires a little intent and commitment. After the month-end has closed; the Board pack’s been pulled together, presented and the actions handed out; And you’ve cleared the ‘urgent’ follow-ups; And held a few 121’s….. And set everyone off on what needs to be done before you reload and DO IT ALL AGAIN next month.... There’s a small gap of about a week. And it’s perfect for creating some space to think about you or your team – what’s important, what’s working and what could be even better. And turning that into some actions that finally fit YOUR agenda. So if you thought you couldn't escape GroundHog Day and have time for your own agenda. Think again. But it all starts with that first commitment to yourself. Drop me a message if I can help!

A Day in the Life of an Accountant: Finding Meaning Amidst a Vast Sea of Numbers #️⃣ With a steaming cup of coffee in hand☕️, I sit at my desk🪑, amongst my team👥, ready to tackle the challenges that lay ahead🧗🏾. My morning ☀️begins with reviewing financial statements🧾, meticulously combing through numbers to ensure accuracy and compliance✅. With each calculation🧮, I bring order to chaos, transforming raw data into meaningful insights🧠. As the day progresses, I find myself immersed in meetings 📞, collaborating with colleagues and clients alike🗣️. Whether discussing going concern forecasts📈, audit strategies🤔, or tax calculations ➗✖️➕, we approach each interaction with a blend of professionalism, empathy & a bit of humour, understanding that behind every balance sheet lay a company’s entire livelihood 🏢. Accountants have a running joke, that “don’t stress too much, we not doctors, nobody is gonna die” 😂 Yes, true but don’t underestimate the overwhelming responsibility placed on you. I mean banks🏦, pensioners👵🏻, employees👷🏾♂️, investors👩🏽💼, customers🧍♂️, governments 🏛️& the economy itself💹, depends on the integrity of these financial statements📑 to make very serious decisions 🤌🏾. …As the day drew to a close 🌆, I felt a sense of fulfillment knowing that my work had made a difference and with a final glance to the bottom right corner of my screen, it’s “17:00”, time to power down my laptop, go home, and rest, so I can bring the same attitude the next day.🫱🏽🫲🏾
