Worker 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 and 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞 are among the most important things we should prioritize in #Manufacturing. In fact, improved safety directly correlates to increased productivity by workers. 𝐒𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫?
A 2021 survey showed that 49% of people who left their jobs in #manufacturing did so because they did not feel completely safe with the tasks they were performing. Frequently, these tasks are a very manual and repetitive process for individuals.
Last week at PACK EXPO International, there were a lot of solutions showing how technology and automation can improve workflow. I caught up with Nick Hajewski from TAWI - A brand by Piab Group to better understand 𝐄𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.
Their focus is eliminating the physical stress workers have from lifting boxes, sacks, reels, sheets, drums, and so much more that are typically done by hand. I even got to try it out myself!

Hey everyone, it's Jake Hall, the manufacturing millennial here at Pack Expo in Chicago. And we're learning about all the cool technology solutions that are making workers lives easier in the packaging warehouse and logistics space. I talked with Nick Gayeski, who's the Director of Marketing at the paid group with the lifting division. Mike, how are you doing today? Excellent, Thanks so much for having us out today. So tell us about the company. Tell us about your part of PIEB Group to start with. So there's a division of that. So tell us more about it. Let me get some colors so you might recognize from the robots. From our company, that's our vacuum automation division. We also have a vacuum conveying division that does the conveyance of granular materials or powders. We're in the lifting automation division. We're either in the replacement of a person doing the work themselves or the backup for a robot or in an instance where a robot doesn't have enough volume to keep busy, absolutely lifting automation, that's what we do. It's one of those things where automation is great, robots are great, but they're not always the best ROI for companies. So companies who have unique applications or might not be running out of machine where. That would justify a robot. You still wanna make that workers life easier? Exactly. You want to reduce injuries and risk, That's where you guys step in. Exactly. So if you think for packaging loading rolls onto the vertical form fill machines. 300 roll, you want to push it on or do you want to roll it on? Do you want it easier for employees so they leave work at the end of the day feeling just as good as when they came to the office in the morning? Or do you, Especially with the labor shortage that's out there, some products are too heavy for one person, so you have to have two people. Well a lot of times you can't have two people available. Well this is your other person making it easier. Yes. So our primary product lines are vacuum tube lifters. We invented those in the 80s where the originator of the vacuum tube lifter and they came from a need to make the job easier for the people lifting the 50. Eggs. Yeah. It's not necessarily that a person couldn't do it, but they do it all day long. It's gonna cause them pain. They got, like, their job. And you're going to have less efficiency that way. So efficiency, safety, employee satisfaction, we take a couple boxes. And when we're talking about the next generation of millennials and Gen. Z, they work differently, right? They don't want to go to work and be so exhausted they can't go and spend time with their family or their kids or, you know, it keeps employees working at your company because they're not so physically exhausted at the end of each day. It's a lot less incentive to go for a dollar down the road for the same job when it's less quality of life for you. Yeah. So that's where we help employers retain their employees and keep them happy. Absolutely. And you guys are lifting everything from bags to bins to boxes. Yes. What else are you guys focusing on? Gosh, we do custom tools over 1000 custom end effectors a year where everything from a pool liners, 500 LB pool liners to this simple boxes that you see in a warehouse or even if you go to an airport at some airports or at you take a cruise and a cruise line. That your packaging is being lifted by a vacuum solution rather than, you know, workers who are processing hundreds of thousands of luggages every day. You're making their lives easier. If you go to pick up your bag at the carousel and you think I'll have it is for you, imagine it loading 250 of them. I know. So it's a bit that's where we get our in. As the guy who has a lot of miles on Delta, I totally understand what you're saying there. Well, Nick, really thanks for your time. I appreciate it. Of course, if you wanna learn more about all the different solutions here at PD Group, especially their lifting division as well. We'll have some more information down in the comments below. We'll see you soon.
