So, Italy, one of the countries that was supposed to benefit from the changes to the UK non-dom regime, has decided to double the flat tax amount for their own non-dom regime from €100,000 to €200,000. This is amid fears that this is sending house prices skyrocketing, which was one of the reasons why Portugal have revamped their Non-Habitual Residence regime. This is not to say that this is going to make Italy any less interesting for those who can afford it, but it does change the goalposts a little more, and maybe Italy is not the option it was for some non-doms in terms of income tax. There are some options to minimise tax for those who want to come to the UK (and those already here and who cannot benefit from the new rules), and good advice will always mean that people can make an informed decision about their position. Understanding the nuances of the double taxation treaty between Spain and Gibraltar is crucial to avoid falling into common tax traps. Here's what you need to know… The double taxation treaty between Spain and Gibraltar which came into force in March 2021 tightened the rules regarding individuals pretending to be a tax resident in Gibraltar while actually living in Spain to benefit from a more favourable tax environment. However, it has always been clear that any of these factors; i) spending more than 183 overnight stays in Spain in a calendar year, ii) having your centre of economic and vital interests in Spain or iii) holding two-thirds of your assets either directly or indirectly in Spain; triggers tax residency. To effectively navigate these complex tax obligations, it's essential to get expert advice. Fiduciary Wealth Management offers guidance tailored to British expats, ensuring you meet all legal requirements without unnecessary tax burdens. 📘 Download our free guide, "The 10 Common Mistakes British Expats Need to Avoid When Moving to Gibraltar," to learn more about how to manage your finances smoothly and efficiently. ➡️➡️https://lnkd.in/dxh-26s6 Relax in the knowledge you’re fully informed and compliant, so you can finally enjoy the benefits of living in Gibraltar like you deserve. #TaxResidency #DoubleTaxation #Gibraltar #Spain #ExpatriateFinances

Malta Double Taxation Treaties 🗺 Cross-border investments, trade in products and services, knowledge and technology transfers, and labour mobility have interconnected nearly all countries in today's globalised economy. The aforementioned transactions and activities have the potential to yield diverse forms of income and may trigger tax implications within the domestic tax laws of multiple participating jurisdictions. This raises the possibility that two jurisdictions might be entitled to tax the same income held by the same individual. Examples of this include cross-border commuters, posted employees, and retirees who live in one EU nation but receive their pension from another. Nonetheless, the majority of nations have reached agreements in order to avoid double taxation. Malta's Double Taxation Treaties include rules on the abolition of double taxation as well as regulations pertaining to dividends, interest, royalties, employment income, students, performers, and athletes, among other categories. 3wDoesn't the double taxation agreement account for some of that? I know that the US taxes its citizens above a certain threshold, but I thought that threshold was more than enough to live in Portugal. (For me, it was the paperwork and accounting fees, not the taxes, that was annoying. The income threshold was pretty high, so it is just about proving that you don't need to pay taxes. She doesn't even mention the accounting fees.)
