Great summary of the latest ProWein Business survey from Meininger's International with loads of useful insights to unpack. Probably the biggest takeaway is the following: "there is a clear shift in consumer preferences towards more refreshing products, including white wines, sparkling wines, and low-alcohol wines". Also of note is the boost global boost in interest for Bag in Box wines. In short (and as I have been saying for years now), contemporary, western consumers under the age of 50 want to enjoy easy-drinking, financially approachable wines and will reward producers who satisfy those demands. https://lnkd.in/eW2eiMmr

'The sparkling wine category has proven itself a bright spot in the gloomy sales picture for wine. Although Prosecco is on the verge of passé, it has helped wine drinkers acquire a taste for weekday fizz. As a result, curious ex-Prosecco drinkers are now re-exploring traditional method wines.' 'But when it comes to higher-quality wines with extended bottle ageing, the challengers to the houses of Épernay and Reims tend to price like their competition; English sparkling wine is a good example. Yet South Africa is making vintage-dated, long-aged traditional method wines that offer unbeatable value for buyers and wine drinkers.' This month my Buyer's Spotlight column for Harpers Wine & Spirit looks at Cap Classique and the value and potential it offers to UK buyers looking to branch out: https://lnkd.in/dDcTegk2 (£) Cap Classique Association Natasha Najm Clare Malec Rebecca Constable

💡 - "Understanding how traditional premium wines and new wine-based beverages can coexist under one regulatory framework is essential for the wine industry’s future." 💡 - "Based on the current analysis of the wine sector, three key strategies can be pursued. The advantage is that these strategies are complementary and can be implemented together, depending on the grower, company, region, or country involved. These strategies are: 1 ▶ Fostering traditional consumption of more traditional wines. 2 ▶ Enhancing and promoting new types of wines and their communication to appeal to new consumers. 3 ▶ Reinventing the wine product to attract consumers who are further removed from traditional wines." 👏 Thank you for this research publication! - Simone Loose Rafael del Rey https://lnkd.in/ewftiXAA Hochschule Geisenheim University Meininger's International WEINWIRTSCHAFT Deutsches Weininstitut, The German Wine Institute i.e. Wines of Germany worldwide Deutscher Raiffeisenverband e.V. "En primeur" is a French term that translates to "in advance." It refers to the practice of purchasing in spring the wines of the last harvest, while they are still in the barrel and before they are bottled and released onto the market. This purchasing method is also known as “𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔." Here are some reasons why you should consider to buy en primeur wines. Access to limited releases: En primeur offers the opportunity to access limited-release wines that are highly sought after and often produced in limited quantities Guaranteed allocation: En primeur purchases often come with a guaranteed allocation of wine, ensuring that buyers receive a portion of the wine produced by a particular estate Bottle formats: you can decide in which format the wine is to be bottled. Along with the standard and half-bottle sizes, this process allows you to choose between larger formats as well, such as Magnum, Double-Magnum and Imperial. Each year Arvi offers a wide selection of En Primeur wines, purchased directly from Bordeaux and delivered after bottling. Which of these profiles is yours? 🕵️ A) I work in a winery, and we produce white wines. B) I work in a winery, and we do not produce white wine. C) I am a wine importer, and I have several whites in my portfolio. D) I am a wine importer, and I do not have white wines in my portfolio. E) I do not work in the industry, but I like the world of wine. Whatever it is, you will surely find the data I share below in the image interesting. If you work with white wines, because you have the opportunity to meet the growing demand for them, and if not, because this data might encourage you to include them. 📈 Statistics confirm the growth in white wine consumption, especially within the premium and organic segments, which aligns with the global wine trend and again highlights the importance of premiumization. Other factors contributing to the rise in white wine consumption include: ➡️ Its health-related characteristics. ➡️ Habits such as aperitifs. ➡️ Interest in new and exotic flavors. Consumers are the creators of new habits, and increasingly, without constraints of occasion or season. 🌍 The world of wine is inevitably becoming less constrained. 🫶 If you liked this post, share it, and leave your comments below! #wineindustry #whitewines #winetrends #winemarket

GERMANY 2024 TASTING REPORT: The Pursuit of Perfection (Part VI) Finally, it’s worth noting the seemingly sudden explosion in the number of exciting sekts, or German sparkling wines. The sekt revolution could have happened a lot earlier if it weren’t for the fact that very cheap sparkling wines, largely made from imported Italian and Spanish base wines, formerly dominated the German market. It’s no wonder that German consumers who wanted a quality sparkling wine preferred Champagne before sekts made their splash on the scene. I think that the Winter Sekt Rheinhessen Pure Brut Nature 10/18 says a great deal about what changed. Although this is a Champagne-method sparkling wine, it’s a cuvee entirely composed of reserve wines from the vintages 2008 to 2015. Germany’s first perfect sparkling wine is incredibly complex with a super mineral acidity and a kaleidoscopic finish. It’s impossible to imagine a more radical break with the thin, tart sparkling wines of the past that were propped up with sweetness but still had an aggressive mousse. Read the full report for the other game-changing German sparkling wines from producers like Aldinger in Wurttemberg, Bergdolt in the Pfalz and Keller in Rheinhessen: https://lnkd.in/gZqF_QpV #Germany #GermanWine #WineTasting #sekt #SparklingWine #Winelovers

Holy Wines – leader in wines off the beaten path - Read more: https://lnkd.in/dJmaU5TC Holy Wines literally started out of nowhere. Although its founder, Adrian, had long been into wine, the venture was never in the pipeline. He had never thought of having a business in such a saturated market and in a time when wine consumption globally is decreasing. Obsession, however, can lead to some crazy things, with Holy Wines starting out as a labour of love. What started as a crazy idea became a highly fulfilling experience, as Adrian only chose to import the wines that he loves, and that were not available in Malta before Holy Wines was established. Founded in 2019, Holy Wines is now already a leader in wines which are off the beaten path, wines that, in the industry, are sometimes referred to as niche. Wines that usually come from cooler climates or high altitudes if in warmer ones. Wines that offer elegance over power or high alcohol. Wines coming from small family-run wineries that are produced in very small numbers, and also some big names in the current super premium and natural wine scenes. On top of this over 65% of Holy Wines imports already carry organic certification. #WhosWho #Malta
