Did you know that 30% of travellers are willing to pay more for a hotel with eco credentials? Reducing your reliance on single-use plastic does require an upfront investment. But do it well, and you could save money in the long run: 👉Make the switch from single-use plastic toiletry bottles (one of the hospitality industry’s biggest culprits) to refillable bottles, and save by ordering refills in bulk. Plus, it stops guests from taking unused bottles home as a souvenir. 👉Show off your eco credentials, and you’re making sure your hotel stands out from the competition and positions itself as a more premium brand. Plus, you’ll be keeping up with industry giants like Mariott and Hyatt. 👉You’ll also have the opportunity to market your hotel in new channels, such as the Hotelbeds Sustainable Hotels Program, which gets your property in front of new potential guests. Doing your bit for the environment and an improved bottom line? Yes please.

As I prepare for tomorrow's Hotel Guest Experience Experience Forum being hosted by Hotel Guest Experience Hub as part of their Power Panel on Sustainable Strategies for Elevated Guest Experiences, here are my thoughts on how to embrace sustainability in hospitality. In a world where every choice matters, sustainability in the hospitality industry has become more important than ever! Here’s why a guest experience focused on sustainability is essential for both customers and the planet: Eco-Friendly Practices: Hotels and restaurants are increasingly adopting energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials. This means you can enjoy your stay or meal while knowing you’re minimising your carbon footprint! Locally Sourced Ingredients: Dining out? Look for places that prioritise local produce. Savour fresh flavours while supporting local farmers and reducing transportation emissions—it's a win-win! Waste Reduction Initiatives: Many establishments are implementing recycling and composting programmes to cut down on waste. As a guest, the choices made can help promote these initiatives and make a lasting impact! Guest Engagement: The hospitality industry encourages guests to participate in sustainability efforts. From eco-friendly programmes to green tips, their involvement can inspire change and make a difference! By prioritising sustainability, we can elevate the guest experience while ensuring a brighter, greener future for all. Let’s travel, explore and dine responsibly, creating unforgettable memories that also protect our planet! #SustainableHospitality #EcoFriendlyTravel #GreenGuestExperience

𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 The Sustainable Restaurant Association! This partnership marks an important step in our commitment to #sustainability. Here the three main steps we are already implementing in our F&B strategy: 👩🏾🌾 Give visibility to talented local businesses and producers 🚀 Boost local economy 🥬 Provide our hotel guests with the finest, freshest produce Our VP of F&B Marc Lores Panades finely describes it : "Tourism brings many benefits, but at what cost? Respecting local culture, products, and traditions is essential to honouring the origins and should be a requirement when applying new business development practices and ESG. By aligning with local sourcing, supporting slow producers, and respecting the island, Aethos Hotels is trying to give back in various ways". This is just the beginning, and we have many more exciting steps ahead on our sustainability journey. 🌎 #Aethos #Zaïa #Sustainability #LocalEconomy #Provenance #HotelIndustry #SustainableFuture #EnvironmentalImpact

How does your hotel stand out in an increasingly noisy sustainable hospitality marketplace? With innovative strategies in energy, water and waste reduction technology/plant based, zero waste and alternative protein menus/community outreach, engagement and products and memorable entertaining and educational experiences for guests. Probably not with 'initiatives such as encouraging guests to reuse towels and linens, implementing a carbon offset platform, eliminating single-use plastic water bottles, and transitioning to large amenity dispensers' Kudos to Far East Hospitality Management (S) Pte Ltd and Arthur Kiong getting all 16 hotels Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certified and all of the above help, but if guests are going to start happily paying more to stay in sustainable hotels they need a LOT more incentive than reusing towels. Would love to see Far East's more exciting eco initiatives front and center in their marketing - can't hurt right? #tuuEcoStayAwards #sustainablehospitality #singaporetourismboard #singapore

"Linens and towels replaced every third day unless otherwise requested." 😐 During my recent vacation, I noticed a significant change in the hospitality industry’s approach towards sustainability. 🏨 Many hotels have adopted a policy of replacing linens and towels every third day unless otherwise requested. While this may initially seem like a departure from the traditional daily linen change, it represents a commendable step towards environmental responsibility. The rationale behind this initiative is grounded in the urgent need to conserve water and reduce energy consumption. Consider the following: 1. Water Usage: Hotels can use up to 300,000 gallons of water per month just for laundry. 2. Energy Consumption: Each load uses about 20 gallons of water. Extending the interval between changes reduces energy use and carbon footprint. 3. Guest Support: A study found that 75% of hotel guests are willing to participate in such programs. 4. Financial Savings: Hotels save money on reduced laundry costs, allowing them to reinvest in other sustainability initiatives, benefiting both the environment and the business. Such measures reflect a broader shift towards responsible tourism, where the hospitality industry plays a crucial role in protecting our natural resources for future generations. So, the next time you see that sign in your hotel room, you can rest assured that it’s a step in the right direction – a positive move towards a more #sustainable and #environmentally conscious world.
