The days of limitless travel are coming to a close. Between overcrowded destinations and careless tourist behavior, a clear need for boundaries is giving rise to tighter regulations and more mindful business models. The shift from high-volume to high-value travel will forever change how we define a brag-worthy trip. For example, In Goa, the tourism department has banned 10 activities that have caused or are likely to cause damage or deterioration to key tourist spots such as unauthorized boating, roadside cooking by tourists, and selling tickets outside official counters. Similarly, the Madras High Court requires vehicles entering Ooty and Kodaikanal during peak tourist months, to obtain a pre-registered e-pass for entry so that the carrying capacity of ghat roads can be fixed from excessive tourist footfall. How can local tourism businesses diversify their revenue streams in response to restrictions that may reduce their traditional sources of income? #TBWAIndia #Backslash

The Rise of India's Domestic Travel In the evolving world of tourism, the best adventures are often found close to home. This is especially true for India, where domestic travel is becoming the heart of the industry. India's domestic travel market has been on a remarkable rise. Driven by a growing middle class, travel spending is increasing by 9% annually. Currently the sixth-largest globally, India is set to become the fourth-largest by 2030, surpassing Japan and Mexico. A key factor in this growth is the surge in domestic air travel.Indian travelers are rediscovering their country’s rich diversity—from the Himalayas and Kerala's backwaters to Rajasthan's vibrant culture and the Northeast's lush landscapes. This rediscovery is evident in record-breaking attendance at national parks and thriving tourist spots. Looking to the future, India's domestic travel market shows no signs of slowing down. Is Goa pushing tourists away to make a quick buck? There’s a hard truth about Goa that no one wants to talk about... It’s starting to feel like a place where tourists are seen as ATMs, rather than guests. Foreign tourists have dropped from 8.5 million in 2019 to just 1.5 million this year. And now, even domestic tourists are questioning the value of a Goa vacation. With rising costs, lack of hospitality, and constant stories of overcharging, people are choosing other destinations that actually make them feel welcome. Think about it...why would someone pay premium prices to be treated poorly? The Ugly Reality: Goa’s tourism practices are creating a cycle of disappointment. The infamous “taxi mafia” forces tourists to pay exorbitant fares, with no ride-hailing apps allowed. Hotels and resorts charge inflated rates but offer minimal service. And basic infrastructure? Often neglected. Meanwhile, places like Thailand, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka offer Indian tourists a better experience at a fraction of the cost. These countries understand that tourism isn’t just about extracting money it’s about creating memories, value, and loyalty. But Goa? It’s stuck in a mindset of short-term profit. The Ripple Effect: Tourism is not a luxury for Goa it’s a lifeline. When tourists stop coming, the people who suffer aren’t the big corporations, but the locals the beach vendors, taxi drivers, and artisans who depend on this income to make a living. If Goa wants to retain its place as a top destination, it’s time for some tough changes. 1) End the monopoly. Allow services like Ola and Uber. Give tourists choice and fair prices. 2) Clean beaches, decent infrastructure, and a welcoming atmosphere. This shouldn’t be too much to ask for a tourist destination. 3) Prioritize experience over-exploitation. When tourists feel valued, they return. When they feel exploited, they don’t. Goa is at a turning point. Will it choose sustainability or continue down this path of exploitation? Is Goa turning into a place to avoid? #Goa #economy #finance #tourism

Tourism activities temporarily banned in Kerala's coastal areas: Precautions to take Due to the rough seas experienced in many coastal areas of Kerala, beach tourism activities have been halted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Thrissur districts. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), a central government agency that issues weather warnings for fishermen in the country, has found that as a result of the low-pressure system moving into the Indian Ocean, very high waves -- which reached 11 meters at some places -- were created and reached the Kerala coast. The waves, known as the 'swell surge' or 'kallakkadal' (as it is locally known), are likely to continue on the eastern coast of India (Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The term 'kallakkadal' literally means a sea which comes suddenly like a thief. The waves are expected to continue tonight on Kerala coasts and probably in the following days as well. https://lnkd.in/gzSUHxgk #tourism #activities #temporarily #banned #kerala #coastal #areas #precautions #beach #halted #thiruvananthapuram #kollam #alappuzha #thrissur #districts #INCOIS #destinations #bookings #itineraries #emergency #tourismhelpline #travel #traveling #traveladvisor #travelindustry #travelagent TraveLICE TraveLICE Customercare

Attended a discussion organised by Goa University - Goa Business School at Cidade De Goa, Dona Paula. it's great to see the discussions moving in the directions of sustainability and encouraging responsible tourism. The main Takeaway i could gather was 1- As people living in Goa, we must encourage a positive responsible culture. Only if we exhibit proper waste management, maintaining a clean and tidy environment and a strong penalty against people littering/dirtying places with every visit, then we can retain the beauty of Goa. 2- Involving the local community is very important. Only once the community has accepted the various tourism initiatives that move into the hinterlands, we can take it to the masses. Forced Tourism into new regions will face resistance if the confidence of the locals are ignored. 3- Building an effective transport system is crucial. Even though the need is strong, the attitude and rotten behaviour of Taxi unions across Goa prevents the rise of economic public transport. The last "Peak" Season in Goa was a prime example of how the market can shift to other destinations if we do not provide and maintain a good ecosystem for tourism in Goa. Travellers will reduce with time and it will be a serious problem for those whose livelihood depends on Tourists in Goa. What do you think? Let us not be........... One social media post on the 'downslide' of Goa tourism created a storm. Sides were taken, the Government got involved and counter posts and articles inundated us. Yes, the arrival figures in the Post were incorrect. And while everyone countered that, did we miss the larger picture ? Many articles and posts I read, slammed and blamed the visiting domestic tourists for Goa's bane - they are unruly, don't follow traffic rules, litter, are drunk and uncouth, ogle at women, no respect for local traditions, bargain excessively and and and. But tell me - how is this Goa visiting tourist any different from tourists visiting other parts of the country ? Or is it that only Goa gets the trashiest tourists ? Isn't the hospitality industry going ga ga about India's domestic traveller ? The improved highway network and expanding airport infrastructure is only going to increase this travelling number. And how about the Administration putting in checks and balances in place to counter all of it and reign them in ? Or then how about just stopping entry of tourists- that will solve all your problems !! What surprises me that everyone is turning a blind eye to the fact that Goa is no longer just a tourist destination. It is today an equally important and growing real estate destination. Look at the number of huge townships coming up. The buyers are all from outside Goa. How will Goa then manage this tsunami ?! Let us not be the ostrich burying its head in the sand. Goa was and can continue to be an amazing destination. Let us address the issues at hand, take immediate remedial steps and give Goa the place it deserves. This, very surprisingly, is the only main beach destination on a 3,000 kms coast line of India ! #Goa #tourism #hospitality #socialmedia #findthebalance
