Citizen development is not shadow IT! Just because it's not written in code, doesn't mean it isn't viable and valuable! I hear from a lot of citizen developers that their IT teams don't like their use of #nocode tools. They don't want these tools. But what do they think these citizen developers were doing before they started using #nocode tools to solve their problems? They were solving those problems, doing the same things, but in #Excel, usually much less effectively. And IT didn't complain about it when they were doing it in Excel. That's just how they had to do their work. But guess what - that way of working stinks! And now that there are better tools, they hear from IT that they shouldn't be using them - apparently they should be writing code. But why? It's not the code that delivers the value - it's the outputs. And IT can't keep up with everything. There just aren't enough engineers to go around. And there are a lot of challenges to solve for: - Legacy systems that can't keep up with modern business. - ERPs, POSs, CRMs and more that don't do everything we need them to do. - New business needs that need to be solved quickly. - More data than Excel can handle. To be fair, IT isn't just sitting around twiddling their thumbs. They're working on solving a lot of this. But that takes time, and there’s a business to run NOW. Citizen developers are the operators of that business - they know what they need. And they finally have tools that enable them to resolve many of these needs themselves. So stop getting in their way and complaining about shadow IT. It's not shadow IT - it's doing what they've always done, but in a better, more sustainable way. #Citizendevelopment #analytics - - - These views are my own and not necessarily shared with my employer.
