Collaboration is the Key to Growing North Shields as a Destination North Shields is full of potential, but to truly grow as a destination, there is more work to be done in my humble opinion. There are so many opportunities for collaboration that could transform how visitors experience our town and highlight all the amazing things we have to offer. Take the Port of Tyne shuttle bus, for example – it currently bypasses the Fish Quay and goes straight to Tynemouth. Why not bring those visitors to the heart of North Shields? From the Fish Quay’s incredible food scene to its heritage sites, there’s so much they’re missing out on. And then there’s our Fishscape artwork on Natters Bank. It’s such a beautiful piece of public art, but it’s still not visible to cruise ship or ferry passengers. Plus, the signage letters leading from the ferry to the Fish Market are incomplete, making it look unloved instead of welcoming. These are just a few examples of where collaboration could make all the difference. By coming together, we can connect ideas, fix what’s missing, and create a town that feels loved and ready to welcome the world. North Shields 800 is the spark to make these changes happen – building connections, showcasing what makes us unique, and showing the world what North Shields is all about. Your thoughts ? #ILoveNorthShields #Collaboration #DestinationNorthShields #NorthShields800 #CommunityPride

When is a roundabout not just a roundabout....? When it is built by CORE of course...! Did you know, that in the UK, we have a higher proportion of roundabouts in our road network than in any other country in the world?! This is because roundabouts are proven to be safer than traditional intersections, as they reduce the number of potential collision points. We also have different types of roundabouts. There's single-lane roundabouts - typically found at intersections where two or more roads meet and characterised by a single lane that encircles a central island. Then we have mini-roundabouts, although smaller in size, they operate in a similar manner to regular single-lane roundabouts. And what about multi-lane roundabouts.....these can vary in size and complexity, but they all have one thing in common: they feature more than one lane for drivers to choose from when navigating the roundabout. And one of the most unique and intriguing roundabout designs found in the UK is the magic roundabout. While not commonly seen on the roads, they are known for their distinct appearance and reputation in the areas where they are located. We love all kinds of roundabouts, and we are pretty good at constructing them.....as the drone pictures from one of our latest projects in South Yorkshire shows ⬇ Do you have a favourite roundabout? #roundabouts #roads #infrastructure #civilengineering #ukroads

On Friday 12th July Nick Wilson, with Elliot Dason-Barber & Andrew Miller as walking partners, drove #RockClimber totally unaided to over 1000m, of the 1085m available, on Mount Snowdon via the Llanberis Path. Nick & RockClimber overcame some incredibly difficult obstacles, including Alt Moses, in wet conditions to reach the highest point ever before reached unaided by a powered wheelchair. He was sadly stopped in the final stretch by a gap in the rocky path that was simply too narrow for RockClimber to fit through. The path narrowed to a pinch point at the very top of the final ridge. After 3 hours of climbing from the Llanberis car-park, to reach this point, the team agreed that it would make little sense (or be allowed) to take to the track to finish the last few metres, and they agreed that the mission had been completed. Co-owner of Rock Engineering Ltd, Elliot Dason-Barber reflected "We have very mixed emotions right now. Nick has driven brilliantly to get to this point. It is virtually impossible for people to appreciate just how difficult it is to drive any vehicle up half metre steps, on a 30deg (average) slope in the wet. Nick has completed several long stretches of this type of terrain, and it is incredibly demanding on him. It is a shame we can make those last few metres because we're simply too wide to fit through the gap, but we have shown what is possible, and we are so proud of Nick, and our team back in Towcester" Andrew Miller, co-owner, added "The updates we have made to RockClimber 2.0, have proved to have made all the difference. Without the new wheels & tyres, steering, etc. we would not have achieved this. Let alone achieve it in the wet. We also lost the drive from the front right wheel at the start of the climb, and we still have been able to get to this point. It is a real testament to how capable RockClimber is, and how well Nick drove. We can't thank everyone enough for their interest and support, and we look forward to bring RockClimber into production." Rock Engineering Ltd would like to thank again all those individuals, companies, and organisations who have supported the goal of improving accessibility through inclusive Engineering. #accessibility #accessibilitymatters #disabledadventure #iet #disabilityawareness, Aston University, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), APF Aston University, Robin Boyd, SPECTRUM POWDER COATINGS LIMITED
