A lifelong learner learning about life and riding the second curve | Brains in my head and feet in my shoes | 🟦

I learned a concept from my engineer friend Joshua Gibbons at RENEGADE CONTENT CREATION that he calls “Derivative Impacts.” It goes like this... “One of the first things you must learn as an engineering student is derivatives. Without understanding that mathematical principle, you cannot move forward in the field. But derivatives are also a component of life, and often times have much more impact than in a mathematical formula. We never know how our actions will impact others, either right then or decades later.” I’m honored and grateful to receive this award. Thank you Utility Analytics Institute (UAI) for the recognition and for including me in a group with my friends Arnie Richardson, David Pope, Glen Sartain, and Raiford Smith. They are Thought Leaders to be sure but more importantly they are Do Leaders. I’m just a Supply Chain guy who poured himself into this unique industry and has been blessed to learn from so many remarkable people all over the world. Some of them work for utilities with job titles that range from Analyst to CEO to BoD member. Some are industry analysts. Some are in the media. Some are former SAS colleagues including Sales, Pre-Sales, Marketing, and country and regional leaders who invited me to listen to and learn from their customers. Some are in companies that partnered with SAS. Some are consultants. Some are in academia and government. Some are in industry associations. I was going to going to tag the people I’ve learned the most from (and have been most influenced by) in this post. But before I knew it, there were 175 names on the list. If you’ve been patient enough to read this far your name is almost certainly on that list. Going back to Joshua and Derivative Impacts, I can point to one derivative that brought me here – a 3 week assignment given to me 15 years ago by former SAS CMO Randy Guard to study whether SAS should develop an offering that leveraged smart meter data. That led to a series of other derivatives including: - A dinner with Craig Johnston of OGE Energy Corp. where I learned about the University of Idaho’s Energy Executive Course - Being accepted into the 59th annual EEC course in 2012 - Being asked to serve on the advisory boards of the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster, the UNC Charlotte Energy Production & Infrastructure Center (EPIC), and UNC Charlotte College of Engineering's Industrial and Systems Engineering Department - Participating in the inaugural Zpryme Energy Thought Summit, the Utility Analytics Institute (UAI) Summit, and the Digital 360 Summit events - My first Joules Accelerator event I love this industry...and the people in it...and I’m grateful to Randy for the impact a seemingly minor assignment has made in both my professional and personal life. #human2human #derivativeimpacts Yvonne Sertich Lee Anne Nance Johan Enslin Mark Boomgarden Tao Hong Simon Hsiang Rob Keynton Mark Ishac Jason Rodriguez Mike Smith Mark Johnson Andres Carvallo Bob Irvin Ryan Rutledge
