From the bottom of my heart, Here’s a new blood test -that you only need to take once- you need to ask- and most likely pay for this year. It’s called the ‘Lipoprotein a’ (LPa) or ‘LP Little a’ test. You see, one in five people have elevated LPa and even with normal LDL(bad cholesterol) numbers that pesky LPa, if high, can still cause plaque build up and early heart disease. It’s a cause of early heart disease everyone should have checked….and those with high LDL(bad cholesterol) already know, but is a rather new one known to the general public. Here’s the rub: there’s not a med that lowers it available - yet. But they’re in final testing. But it’s coming and you should know whether or not you need to keep an eye on that number. I have high LDL and high LP(a) but with a special shot every other week, my LDL is in the safe zone and LPa is lowered by 30%. When you have genetically high LDL, exercise and diet help, but it’s not enough. I needed meds these last 30 years since I was diagnosed. I’m 60 living with FH…..and I have Zero…..yes…..Zero Calcium and Plaque build up, which means I’m in the safe zone. #KnowFH and #LPA Get your cholesterol checked this year, and ask to get that LPa checked too.
