💡 Downside of Team Bonding Events 💡 In the recent podcast episode, I had an unfinished thought about the possible pitfalls of team events. (Sometimes my brain goes offline in front of a microphone 🤯 ) My idea may have come across as suggesting that team events are not beneficial. What I wanted to emphasize, but forgot to finish with the train of thought, was that while team-building efforts have clear benefits, they may also have some blind spots. When we discuss team-building events, the focus is often on team bonding and cohesion. Sometimes, during team bonding events, we witness team members experiencing up-close and personal moments, sharing vulnerable expressions, and bonding with each other to the extent of becoming boundaryless. Under such circumstances, very often a team, after a series of bonding events, can fall victim to too much togetherness. The main downside to this is fused relational ties, whose side effects are "group conformity" and "groupthink," to use the terms of social scientists. However, the latter does not have much to do with "thinking" as such; it's rather instinctual, emotional, automatic behavior. When brought into a work setting, the downside of excessive togetherness is that team members become so focused on not rocking the boat that they may stop disagreeing to maintain harmony and cohesion over conflict and dissent. Yet mostly we don't want people to stay silent and avoid speaking up; we want them to voice their thoughts, concerns, and constructive criticism, and to share opposing ideas rather than conforming to bad decisions. With the summer event season approaching, it’s worth observing if and how these events might foster too much togetherness, potentially leading to group conformity and groupthink. It’s actually difficult to recognize - after all, in the heat of the moment, it never feels bad when your whole team is agreeing, high-fiving, and getting along. However, it's crucial to ensure that cohesion doesn't sabotage individuality and independence. Can you think of ways to balance your team members' need to belong with their need to be different and distinctive?

With the median age in Africa at around 19, it seems surprising that the median age of leaders is about 63. Why are the youth not engaging in the public sphere, and what does it take to build a pipeline of quality African politicians for future? Navarasas - The Nine States of Emotional Entitlement Rasa is a complex word with various meanings. It explains emotions as well as taste/flavour. The 9 rasas are born from Bhavas. Bhava is a state or occurrence or appearance; or condition from which the emotion is born. A feeling is an awareness of an affect whereas emotion is the subjective experience of affect. Both affect & feelings might last only for a few seconds however, an emotion will last as long as the memory lasts. A mood is a persistent state of emotion that lasts for a few days. Learn more about Navarasas as explained by the noted Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi exponent, Mrs. Rema Madhu. To be released shortly on YouTube in our next Podcast with SETU

📌REFLECTIONS ON EMBRACING OUR JOURNEY📌 I recall a podcast session with Peters Buhari, where we discussed Bishop Matthew Kukah's statement about Nigerian presidents being 'accidental.' Bayo Onanuga's response emphasized President Tinubu's preparedness. This conversation got me thinking: how often do we doubt our own abilities and question whether our successes are merely 'accidental'? As someone who wears multiple hats – OAP and Virtual Assistant – I've had my share of self-doubt. But here's the truth: life is a gradual process. Every experience, every decision, and every effort contributes to our growth. When we nurture our passions and stay dedicated, we pave the way for our dreams to blossom. So, as we navigate 2025, let's silence those doubting voices. Let's acknowledge our hard work, our resilience, and our determination. We deserve our successes, and we owe it to ourselves to believe in our capabilities. Stay committed, stay focused, and trust the process. Your dreams will unfold in due time 💪💪💪 #Motivation #SelfBelief #GrowthMindset #Dedication #Success #PersonalGrowth #Podcast #RadioDynamo #PetersBuhari
