Great article on Charity Workspace by Christopher Waight MRICS. Moving from traditional office to fully flexible co-working can be a big cultural step. Flexible managed workspace is a good middle ground and allows charities to have their own space in which they can stamp their own identity, but benefit from a communal setting often with cafes, break out spaces, meeting rooms and networking events. My favourite! This week I’ve been writing the People workshop. Perhaps my steepest learning curve running and leading an organisation. Just because the third sector helps people, doesn’t mean it always gets people right. In fact there’s some pretty high profile examples of getting it very wrong. I hear about and observe smaller ones getting it wrong daily and then blaming staff when they don’t perform. The biggest impact for me in terms of the well-being, motivation, retention and commitment from our people came from turning values into daily practise. Putting in place consistent and transparent approaches, systems for recruitment, induction alongside policies, well-being support and how you respond to staffing challenges with accountability says everything about your organisation. ——————————————————————— If it’s time for a strategy refresh or review or to build up your charity or social enterprise, and you want to include your team, beneficiaries or Board, then from experience and place of inclusivity and fun, I’d love to help by facilitating workshops with you.
