My time at WashU has brought some amazing people into my life. However, there are few people that I love more than Dr. Scheel at WashU.  I was reminded of something so simple after an incident on Friday. Needing to cancel our 1:1 within 10 minutes of the scheduled time, he not only had his assistant reach out to me, but he also sent a personal note apologizing.  Why do I share this?  While I adore Dr. Scheel, he taught me a valuable leadership lesson. Here is our Vice Chancellor/CEO reaching out personally to apologize for canceling a touch base he generously added to his calendar to bring value to my life and career. This simple action showed me he values me! It's as simple as that. He values my time. He values me as a person. Recent data indicates that Indian-origin academicians are a significant part of the academic workforce in the United States. BCG estimated that around 2.6 percent of higher-ed faculty members, approximately 22,000, were Indian Americans in 2021. A review of the top 50 colleges in the US revealed that 35 have an Indian American in their leadership ranks, including roles like deans, chancellors, provosts, and directors of colleges.
