A graduate who has at least commenced with a small job such as a shop assistant, clerk, security guard, etc. is more likely to find his or her next desired job than a graduate who is doing nothing and keeps applying. Once your CV approaches the recruitment team. The HR team and managers screen your CV diligently and see if you have started anywhere with something small. All graduates around the country, UPNG, Divine Word, PAU, IBS, UOT, Don Bosco, etc. who graduated in the last two or three years will be applying. Remember, that people who are reviewing your CV do not know you in person so how would they give you a score or know that you are passionate about the job or you're the right candidate for the job? Your CV will only make a difference if you have started something small anywhere. It reflects that you're passionate about the role or you are someone who has a strong desire to learn and develop in your career without expecting something big. Graduates should start small anywhere while hunting for their desired job. I am not an HR personnel but I am sharing some thoughts to help the graduates 😍 . #thoughts#graduates#

Finding an entry-level job is not as easy as it should be. You often need work experience to land a role but 50% of state-educated young people leave school without any work experience. This needs to change. #WorkExperienceForAll

Being the Text of the My Welcome Address at the AMSA Lagos Career Summit 3.0 on June 8th, 2024 Assalamu Alaykum Warahmotullahi Wabaarokatuh Respected Guests, the Panelists, and Dear Students, It is a great honor to stand before you today as the Chairman of this significant occasion, the third edition of our Student Summit. Our theme, "Future of Work: Exploring Emerging Trends in the 21st Century Global Labour Market," is both timely and crucial as we navigate the rapid changes shaping our professional landscapes. As we delve into this theme, we must recognize that the future of work is being transformed by several powerful forces. Technological advancements, globalization, and evolving societal expectations are redefining how, where, and why we work. These changes present both challenges and opportunities that we must understand and embrace. First, let's consider technology. Innovations in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation are revolutionizing industries. While some fear that these technologies may displace jobs, they also create new opportunities for those who adapt and learn new skills. It is imperative for us to foster a culture of continuous learning and flexibility to stay relevant in this evolving market. Globalization continues to break down geographic barriers, enabling us to collaborate and compete on a worldwide stage. This interconnectedness requires a diverse skill set, including cultural competence and adaptability. Embracing diversity and leveraging global perspectives will be key to thriving in the future labor market. Moreover, societal expectations are shifting. The new generation of workers values flexibility, purpose, and work-life balance. Companies are responding by offering remote work options, emphasizing sustainability, and fostering inclusive work environments. Understanding these trends and aligning our career goals with these values will be crucial for our success. As future leaders, innovators, and professionals, it is our responsibility to stay ahead of these trends. We must invest in our education, embrace lifelong learning, and develop a growth mindset. Let us also focus on building soft skills such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, which will remain invaluable irrespective of technological advancements. In conclusion, the future of work is dynamic and filled with promise. By staying informed, adaptable, and proactive, we can turn challenges into opportunities and drive positive change in the global labor market. I encourage each of you to explore these emerging trends, engage in meaningful discussions, and prepare yourselves for the exciting journey ahead. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to the insightful conversations and innovative ideas that will emerge from this summit. Roqib Akintunde Akinyemi

Lost a Job opportunity because “I DO NOT HAVE MASTERS DEGREE” There was a company that was hiring and i applied for the same, had all the skills required, experince even exceeded, had all the required exposure. Tukaanza interview, first and second was ok, when we went for the third, some one in the panel asked me “sir, you have all the qualities of the candidate we need, but do you have a masters degree??” I answered NO, then the whole room went cold like i have not met the significant requirement. Story short, i was not selected for the position and someone who had less experience, skills and exposer than me but has MAsters was hired. This was a whole new experience i had undergone and wanted to share with you. You might some day come to this experience. #mastersdegree #employmentprocess #hr #hiringmanagers
