Individual employee wellbeing interventions are a waste of time and money, according to new research by the University of Oxford (2024). 🤔 This research among more than 46.000 employees shines a light on a crucial aspect: while billions ($61bn in 2021) are invested in individual wellbeing initiatives, their impact barely scratches the surface if we don't address deeper, systemic issues. Don’t get it wrong; it’s not about discarding wellbeing efforts, it's about understanding that no amount of wellbeing activities can cure the stress stemming from toxic cultures or unreasonable workloads. Interestingly, insights from Gallup suggest that leadership, particularly the role of managers, is instrumental in shaping employee engagement. Direct managers account solely for 70% of the variance in employee engagement scores. For instance, if you have a toxic manager, no stress-management class can offset the daily stress triggers they create. It's time for a shift in perspective, focusing on fostering environments where wellbeing efforts complement systemic changes. #EmployeeWellbeing #Leadership #WorkplaceCulture #Futureofwork Article: https://lnkd.in/gpA5WnA7
