I have said many times that we need reliable ways to test #ArtificialIntelligence and understand its implications before we implement it on a large scale across the #healthcare industry. Well, UCSF Health may be onto something with their new monitoring tool to test the efficacy, safety, and equity of new #AI technology through the lens of patient care. The Impact Monitoring Platform for AI in Clinical Care (IMPACC) will be the first continuous AI-monitoring platform designed to report when AI is performing its job correctly and to provide notification when devices could be unsafe or widen health disparities. The #data collected from this platform will help healthcare leaders make informed decisions about which AI enhanced tools are best suited for patient use. In a time of uncertainty around AI technology, having access to ongoing intelligence like this is critical for proving out its most effective healthcare use cases, and I’m eager to follow along with the findings that come from this tool.

Amid continued rapid development of novel software products that present new opportunities in the health care space, FDA has yet to grant marketing authorization to a medical device incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) that continuously learns in the field to create derived audiovisual content, otherwise known as generative AI (GenAI). However, manufacturers are eager to find ways to introduce continually learning algorithms to the medical device space in the U.S.

A team of NHS healthcare researchers have developed an AI tool to predict the health trajectory of patients. They have indicated that the tool, named Foresight, could be used to support clinical decision making, monitoring in healthcare settings and clinical trials. It's always difficult to foresee the full value of these tools, but it's an example of how the medtech sector is really going for it with the development of AI solutions, and that this one - involving two hospital trusts and two universities - is coming from within the the healthcare sector. https://lnkd.in/eiFqehZs #ai #nhs #healthcare #medtech
