In the last week mthree’s latest Diversity in Tech report has been released. The report is a temperature check across technology professionals and technology leaders in our key markets in North America, Europe and Asia. Many employers are seeing their efforts pay off. Across gender, ethnic, and socio-economic diversity, leaders are reporting measurable improvements. But the challenges remain. Inclusion continues to be a critical area where progress is needed. Here are five standout themes from the report: 🔹 Leveraging data for impact: Over half of businesses now use workforce demographic data to guide diversity initiatives. It’s encouraging to see companies taking concrete, data-driven steps toward building more inclusive teams. 🔹 Flexibility drives inclusion: Around 90% of leaders reported improved diversity from flexible working models. The challenge now? Striking the right balance between in-person connection and the flexibility that enables people to thrive. 🔹 Opening doors wider: Over a quarter of employers now consider candidates from all universities equally, moving beyond traditional hiring pipelines. This shift is uncovering untapped talent and helping businesses address skill shortages. 🔹 Challenges around inclusion: More than half of Gen Z tech workers have felt uncomfortable in a role due to an identity factor, such as their gender. This underscores the urgent need for intentional efforts like inclusive management practices, unconscious bias training, and equitable onboarding. 🔹 Growing demand for talent: With over 70% of businesses planning to expand their tech teams, the connection between diversity and innovation has never been clearer. Diverse teams are driving creativity, solving complex problems, and shaping the future of tech. There’s so much more to explore in the full report. You can't be what you can't see. 🔑 Relatable role models can be key in empowering young people to see what 'someone like me' can achieve. Young people need to see themselves reflected in industries and job roles to believe it's possible for them as well. We work with employers to increase diversity in their talent pool and work with employee volunteers to share their stories and act as relatable role models for young people from low socio-economic backgrounds. #alumni #relatablerolemodels #employerpartners

Today's report from Tech Talent Charter shows the tech industry has a serious problem with socioeconomic exclusion - just 9% of the workforce are from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. There is so much wrong with this stat: it means that people from working class backgrounds are locked out from well paid, highly skilled and exciting jobs; it means that products and services we all use are being designed by people with relatively narrow experience; and it means that some of the most successful companies in the UK are failing on a key aspect of social impact. It's time for the tech sector to step up. Beyond the embarrassing headline figures, the report includes lots of practical advice and resources to support action. A key resource is the Social Mobility Employer Index - we open for 2024 entries soon and we urge tech employers to get involved and show your commitment to making change.

There are great reasons to participate at the Tech Council of Australia's annual summit – founders giving fireside chats, investors sharing their approach to funding and debates about the ‘real’ impact of AI. And of course, there’s good old-fashioned fun to be had catching up with colleagues and friends! 🎉 Another reason this year was the Tech Council of Australia's launch of independent standards to improve diversity in the tech sector. It’s a disappointing fact that tech powers the world yet only 28% of its workforce are women, compared to 51% of the whole workforce. Women must play a bigger part in designing, building and leading the tech sector. Dreaming it to be different isn't sufficient… there must be a rigorous and systematic approach. The new T-EDI Standards are an interactive certification framework for companies to assess their #EDI performance - hiring practices, parental leave policies, pay transparency and flexible work - against 10 standards and then build an action plan to close the gaps. Given we need a tech workforce that brings a diversity of thinking to the products and services we rely on everyday it's a welcome tool. Congrats to Project F Emma Jones 🍉 who developed the Standards and to Tech Council of Australia's Chair Robyn Denholm and Tech Council of Australia's Director and PEXA's Eglantine Etiemble who lead by example. We just had to grab a sneaky photo to mark the occasion! 📸 #WomenInTech #leadership #FutureThinking Amy Glancey @Kate Cornick Sally Mccutchan Brendan Hopper Catherine Ball William Scheer Jo Dooley Tim Reed Andrew Barnes Sarah O'Carroll Cecelia Herbert 🐨 Anthony Eisen David Masters Leigh Jasper, Sebastian Brash

The latest Diversity in Tech report from the Tech Talent Charter is worth a read providing some eye opening (although not all surprising) insights, including: 👉we found that 1 in 3 women in tech are already planning to leave their job. 👉Only 9% of tech employees are reported to be from lower socio-economic backgrounds compared to 29% in finance and 23% in law 👉Ethnic diversity in senior tech roles drops from one in four, to fewer than one in six in the senior roles. This is in spite of ethnic minority IT workers being more likely to hold higher education qualifications than their White counterparts (87% versus 67%). 👉Just 6% of tech employees are disabled despite making up 23% of the UK workforce 👉Employers report that 3% of their tech employees are neurodivergent. When asked directly 53% of tech workers identify as neurodivergent Judith Jackson-Merrick Richard James Michael Woodhead Mark M. Hozefa Jamali Naureen Khan Emmanuel Ihenacho https://lnkd.in/gSmHRECf
