Prompt Engineering for Dummies Imagine if you could chat with a computer program that understands and responds just like a human. That's what AI, or Artificial Intelligence, does with something called Language Models. But to make these AI systems smarter, we need something called prompt engineering. It’s like giving the AI really good hints so it knows exactly how to answer. Last year, something amazing happened. Prompt engineering didn't just become super important—it became a real job! People are now actually working as prompt engineers, and some are even writing science papers about it. It’s like being an AI whisperer, telling AI systems how to think better.There are lots of ways to give hints to our AI friends. Here are a few: - Chain of Thought (CoT): This is when you help the AI think through a problem step-by-step, just like how you solve a math problem at school. - Chain of Cause (CoC): Here, you show the AI how different things cause each other, helping it understand why things happen. - Program-Aided Language Models (PAL): This means using computer programs to help AI understand and use language better. - Tree of Thoughts (ToT): It’s like mapping out your thoughts in a tree, with branches showing different choices. - Least-to-Most: You start with simple hints and get more detailed if the AI needs more help. - Self-Consistency: This is making sure the AI stays true to what it says, kind of like making sure your story doesn't change each time you tell it. - Analogical Reasoning: This helps the AI make connections between things that are alike, just like when you use metaphors in life.Examples and Applications Each of these strategies helps in different situations. For example, if an AI is helping doctors, it might use Chain of Thought to go through medical steps. Or, if it’s helping write a story, it might use Analogical Reasoning to come up with cool metaphors.Why Prompt Engineering Matters Why do we even bother teaching AI all this? Because it makes them smarter and more helpful! Whether it's helping with homework, solving big world problems, or just chatting, these strategies make AI systems better at understanding and helping us. Check this out: GPT-4oi preview released today - the release version is meeting and _surpassing_ PhD-level reasoning and logic in testing. AI is crazy. The entirety of generaitelabs.com is generated. All of the articles are produced by an AI swarm I made to read the discord server, figure out some good topics based on what people are talking about, and then research/write/edit/publish an article. There are like 70 draft articles sitting there waiting to be released. I'm going to repost this one because it's so relevant today! I was talking about chain of thought the other day, my Pulse app ran and started researching reflection/chain of thought, and the Reflection70b LLM. It wrote the article attached - I wanted to collect these ideas because they help us work better with the LLMs by understanding how to get good results. A couple days later GPT-4oi comes out! And that's the whole theme here, is better logic through reflection and chain-of-thought planning and execution occurring before the answer. GPT-4oi works by streaming heaps of words "chain of thought" before giving an answer to essentially "think," plan and reason, before arriving on an answer. The algorithms in AI are different from other algorithms, because instead of telling a computer what to do, it tells a computer how to learn. This fundamental shift from static instructions to dynamic learning underpins the entire AI revolution. AI's journey is marked by three pivotal stages: Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). Each stage represents a leap forward in AI's capabilities, from performing specific tasks to possibly exceeding human intelligence in every domain. 🔵Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): The AI that surrounds us today, ANI, operates within our daily lives as "smart tools." These tools demonstrate remarkable abilities in: 🔵Image Recognition: Enhancing security systems and powering self-driving cars by identifying objects with incredible accuracy. 🔵Speech Recognition: Enabling voice assistants like Siri and Alexa to understand and respond to various accents and dialects. 🔵Game Mastery: Allowing programs like AlphaZero to not only master games such as chess and Go but also to learn new games autonomously. ANI's specialty lies in excelling at designated tasks, often surpassing human capabilities within its limited scope.
