Global industry experts at the Smart City Expo World Congress this week discuss the value of cross-sector collaboration & power of ecosystems in solving urban mobility challenges. Eva Oosters, the Deputy Mayor for Zero-Emission Mobility in the City of Utrecht, described how Utrecht’s mobility ecosystem isn’t confined within municipality boundaries but extends to the national level too. The city is part of the Dutch Metropolitan Innovations (DMI) ecosystem which unites 15 cities in the Netherlands with 60 companies and institutions to find innovative smart city solutions. Going one step further, Utrecht is the president city of the international European organisation POLIS for the coming year. “There you can see how powerful it can be to work with all the different regions and cities around us on the continent to find solutions for the problems we all face.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eKHik7Ct

🌍 The Smart City Expo World Congress in #Barcelona brought together a diverse community of city changers from around the world. We were thrilled to join 25,000 professionals from over 130 countries, 1,150 exhibitors, and 632 speakers. Together, we're building better cities globally. This year, we curated the Green AGORA, a hub for sustainable urban innovations and smart and green technologies. Dr. Haris Piplas and Alexander Schmidt introduced on their panel the New European Bauhaus Labs Project focusing on inclusive and sustainable neighbourhoods. We created this initiative together with DGNB German Sustainable Building Council, ICLEI, Climate Positive Europe Alliance (CPEA) and BABLE Smart Cities. It's aim is to transform places into green and liveable spaces with EU funding. Our key-take-aways: 🤖 AI continues to lead smart city development trends. Quality data sets are crucial for successful AI implementation, forming the foundation for future advancements. 🤝 Private-Public Partnerships are essential for smart city alignment. Cities and municipalities provide funding and land, but rely on private capital and project developers. These partnerships are key to our cities' smart and green future. 🌱 Net-zero urban solutions highlight the importance of collaboration between new industry players and urban development actors. Environmental catastrophes remind us that sustainability is a must-have, not an add-on. At our dinner event with 38 participants, including WEF, GIZ Germany, and cities like Barcelona, Manchester, Freiburg, and Brno, Orna Rosenfeld, PhD emphasized the importance of inclusion in digital city strategies. She reminded us that having a policy is not sufficient; we need to proactively create inclusive environments. Technology is only a part of the solution—communities and people are the focus. A big thank you goes to Gregor Grassl, Andreas Kieb, Minu Tegethoff and everyone else who contributed to the success of the event. 💬 What do you think is a must-have for a smart, green, and inclusive city? Share your thoughts in the comments—we’d love to hear your perspective! #dreso #sustainability #SCEWC24 #smartcities
