Small Talk Nurseries Telford has gone from strength to strength since it launched on Dawley High Street in 2022. 🧒🏼 👏 The privately owned nursery received a start-up grant through our Pride in Our High Street programme which has helped the business transform a previously empty unit into a space where children from 6 weeks to 5 years old can learn, develop and have fun, as well as host an after school club for children up to 15. 🧑🤝🧑 Our start-up grants can help businesses to open in an empty retail unit on the high street while our start-up trial grants can help new businesses test the water on the high street first, often as pop-up market stalls. Hear how funding has helped Small Talk Nurseries Telford to make its mark on the high street. Investing in the regeneration of our high streets and increasing the diversity of independent shops in our borough towns is all part of our #20pledges20weeks action plan. This announcement will have a major and detrimental impact on 1,000s of young people in Scotland and the employees at Young Enterprise Scot. It is just so wrong at every level. For many young people, what Young Enterprise Scot deliver in schools is life changing and is far more relevant to them than much of the core curriculum. As I have said previously, the discussion should be on how we deliver this programme into all secondary schools in Scotland to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs which our country so badly needs. I hope a sensible solution can be found to this funding issue. While undoubtedly government funding is under huge pressure there remains enormous waste in the public sector, a small amount of which, could fund Young Enterprise Scot.

When we hear that climate change will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable, do you think of distant countries struggling with clean water and food security? The reality is that climate change is already impacting our neighbors here at home. I recently read an article about how Montreal’s new housing policies are helping address basement apartment flooding after recent storms. This got me thinking about the connection between Canada’s housing affordability crisis and climate risks. As local governments work to expand access to affordable housing, are they consistently factoring in climate threats? Beyond the usual criteria like parking and sewer capacity, we must consider risks like flooding from heavy rainfall and extreme heat to protect future residents. It’s encouraging to see innovative affordable housing solutions, like the seed funding program recently announced by the Corporation of the Town of Collingwood. This initiative is a great opportunity to include climate adaptation criteria in the decision-making to award grants, aligning with our strategic climate adaptation goals. Quick and creative solutions are essential, but we must ensure they don’t result in new risks for those we aim to help. Lasting solutions mean building homes that are not only affordable, but also resilient and sustainable. How is your local government addressing affordable housing and climate risks? #BuildResilient #SustainableInfrastructure #ClimateAdaptation #ResilientCities #HousingForAll

Do you need help setting up a project that supports people in your neighbourhood who are struggling with the cost of living? Early next year we will be working with partners to launch a £60,000 fund that helps groups or individuals set up projects that tackle everyday cost of living challenges where they live. From community fridges and school uniform exchanges to shared childcare and batch-cooking schemes, we want to support and enable local people to create the solutions that matter to them. We are currently in the process of appointing a partner that will support you to turn your ideas into action, but we are keen to get the ball rolling. If you have an idea for a project or scheme - even if it’s in the very early stages - you can let us know about it now by filling out a short form. We’re keen to hear from established groups as well as people who have an idea for a small-scale project, but need a bit of help to get it up and running. Please fill out the form here https://lnkd.in/ev6qymad and we’ll keep in touch to let you know about the next steps. #costofliving #funding #community #communityfunding #Adur #Worthing #Lancing #Sompting #Shoreham #Southwick #Fishersgate

I am really pleased to be in the position to share this important update on a project I have been working on for Macduff and Banff since starting in post last October. The Two Towns Big Ideas participatory budgeting fund is supporting six community projects ranging from cultural celebrations to the creation of an inclusive space for a host of social and creative activities are sharing more than £25,000 in funding. The ‘Two Towns: Big Ideas’ grant fund was identified in both the Banff and Macduff Development Partnership Action Plans as a priority project to help the towns develop in the aftermath of the pandemic and cost of living crisis. Following face-to-face discussions with residents and businesses, together with an online public engagement process, Aberdeenshire Council’s Economic Development service agreed to explore participatory budgeting as a method of tackling this issue. Participatory budgeting allows residents and the community to express their views and ideas on the town centre through local democracy, and be at the very heart of deciding how public money is spent locally. Community groups, school groups, businesses, charitable organisations and social enterprises were all encouraged to submit applications for grant ranging from £500 up to £5,000, with the submissions being carefully scrutinised against agreed criteria by a funding panel comprising representatives of the private sector, community council, council officers and chair of the Banff and Buchan Area Committee Cllr Doreen Mair. While the number of applications didn’t quite trigger the voting element of the participatory budgeting process, the following successful groups are eager to kickstart their various projects. Have only unofficially made my 1st sale (movie industry), but already have the mindset to donate funds towards community initiatives! Nobody should ever consider closing a school unless they have total mastery of the situation and the Vancouver School Board does not, so I am compelled to go back into business to #SaveCarleton. The Visual Thinking Company will be a social good company operating on a unique capped exit strategy with extensive open-source code to empower fellow entrepreneurs. It will have numerous trade secrets, the strongest ESOP employee empowerment plan, and a sales strategy designed to create a cultural shift through exceptional salesmanship. This approach aims to engage 16 stakeholders, making them all ecstatic, while fully respecting taxpayers. Achieving this vision requires harnessing the full power of the Canadian Dream and potentially federal intervention to preserve the aspirations of our youth. Can it be done? Can we reverse 20 potentially illegal sub-divisions that the local school board has already submitted to the City of Vancouver? Can we #SaveCarleton? Anybody in my old neighbourhood of Vancouver Collingwood want to volunteer to archive the history of the neighbourhood? I am happy to make some funding available for a renewed and vigourous online presence.

1: Please, don't be that funder - "One grant maker that had given the group 80 percent of what it requested in 2023 gave just 25 percent of what it requested in 2024. In March, she was waiting to hear back from another grant maker that had provided about 30 percent of the group’s budget for more than a decade. At first, the funder asked for more information. Eventually, the grant maker told Gray that the foundation was changing its funding priorities." 2: I love to see the innovation in using DAFs as a donor-driven impact investing and lending tool! #DAF #Philanthropy #Fundraising https://lnkd.in/e84szTSv

ACCESSIBILITY MATTERS. When I purchased a historic building with stairs, an entrance with terrible clearance, and inaccessible bathrooms, I knew I had a challenge on my hands. Funding these accessibility projects was my biggest concern. But thanks to the incredible Jamie Proctor Boyce and Michael Zhang at Pocketed Grant Platform, I no longer have to worry about financing the accessibility improvements my business needs. Funding is available, even for for-profit businesses. If you've ever thought, "How can I afford this next $100K renovation? How can I add a ramp so the little boy in our community can get his wheelchair in here?", you need to connect with the team at Pocketed. #funding #accessibility #accessiblebusiness #accessibleworksite #publicusebuilding
