The shift from expectations to appreciations is transformative in leadership. We often focus on setting expectations and ambitious goals. But remember, appreciation is just as important. We set goals every quarter. Yet, showing appreciation for your team should be a daily practice. They need to hear and see how much you respect and appreciate their effort. Feeling it inside is not enough. It needs to be shown and spoken.

This is a Simple statement that often is overlooked! Effective leaders know their team, and understand they are people first, direct reports second. Empathy is one of most important leadership traits to possess, raising your voice, questioning all, and threatening your team will always lead to unsatisfactory results.

As a manager what is the best way to sort out issues between your team members. There could be 2 ways in my opinion - one would be autocratic leadership style where we instruct either or both the person to follow a particular way to resolve conflict. But this may cost you one or both the members. The other way would be the democratic leadership style where we allow both the members to identify each other's strength and weaknesses which fosters collaboration between them. But there can be a blended approach as well, where we get the best of both worlds: the decisiveness of an autocratic style and the collaboration of a democratic one, ensuring that the team remains cohesive without alienating individuals.

The most difficult skill in my leadership journey has been effective listening. In light of set strategy and systems, I find it difficult to consider different views. However, the days I remember to listen. I get great energy from my team. As a leader, you need to find the balance between set goals and people. We are all in the people business. And people, like to be heard. Even machines, if they are ignored, they break down.

Leaders’ true power lies in their influence on their teams. They have the power to either lift their team to new heights or hold them back. Throughout my journey, I’ve seen firsthand how good leadership can inspire, support, and empower individuals to reach their full potential. Good leaders lead with empathy and vision, helping their teams grow and succeed. On the flip side, bad leadership can stifle growth, demotivate, and create a culture of fear.. something I’ve witnessed and experienced in past challenges.. Leadership isn’t about authority; it’s about responsibility.. I always ask myself: Am I helping my team rise, or am I holding them down? The answer shapes everything we accomplish together, and I strive to make sure it’s always the former.

Building a great team requires a leader who can inspire their team to believe anything is possible. That’s the essence of leadership; helping people reach their full potential and helping your team maximize their gifts to become the very best version of themselves. What makes you effective as a leader is not the title you hold. Rather it’s demonstrating an unrelenting focus on helping others succeed in their collective efforts because when you take care of your team, it often reflects the service they provide to their customers.

Great leaders don’t create followers—they create other leaders. I’ve always believed in empowering my team to take ownership of their work, and I’ve seen how this has led to remarkable results. When I first started managing, I was hesitant to step back, but as I learned to trust my team, I realized that true leadership is about giving others the tools and confidence to succeed on their own.

Being a leader is about more than a title—it is about how you show up, serve, and empower others. Over the years, I have gathered invaluable lessons about leadership that have shaped how I lead the team. Leadership is much more than a role; it is about the actions we take every day to uplift others and stand for what’s right. When we lead with integrity, empathy, and purpose, we inspire change not only in our immediate circles but in the world around us. We create a lasting impact that reaches far beyond the boardroom. When I look back, my most powerful lessons didn’t come from success—they came from moments where I had to rebuild, rethink, and rise again.
