I spent several months in the wonderful country of Egypt🇪🇬, and it truly feels like being with family. However, on the business front, there were certain things that I didn’t fully understand at first.
One thing I noticed was the strong emphasis on appearance and ego, where I sometimes felt that relationships were built more on exchanging mutual benefits than genuine connections. This created a sense of superficiality in some of the interactions.
After diving deeper into understanding cultural dynamics, I realized that this could be a reflection of High Power Distance cultures, where power is concentrated at the top and there’s a strong focus on hierarchy and social status. This often leads to slower decision-making and, at times, a more distant or formal approach to relationships within the workplace.
On the other hand, in Low Power Distance environments, things tend to be more transparent, with more equality in decision-making, which leads to faster processes and more open communication across all levels of the organization.
Now, with a deeper understanding of these cultural nuances, I feel better equipped to navigate these challenges with more flexibility and clarity.
Egypt is a country full of opportunities and resources that contribute to both personal and professional growth, but like anywhere else, understanding the cultural and organizational differences is key to managing our relationships and business interactions effectively.
