In a significant development within late-night television, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld has surpassed Stephen Colbert in viewership ratings, marking a notable shift in the landscape of late-night programming. Gutfeld’s show, “Gutfeld!”, has consistently attracted a growing audience, blending humor with conservative political commentary. This surge in popularity has led to “Gutfeld!” outperforming “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in total viewership on multiple occasions. This trend underscores a broader shift in audience preferences, with viewers increasingly gravitating towards content that aligns with their political perspectives. Gutfeld’s success reflects a demand for alternative viewpoints in late-night television, challenging the traditional dominance of more liberal-leaning hosts. The competition between “Gutfeld!” and “The Late Show” highlights the evolving dynamics of late-night TV, where diverse voices and formats are reshaping the genre. As the media landscape continues to evolve, the rise of “Gutfeld!” signifies a pivotal moment in late-night television, illustrating the impact of political alignment on audience engagement and the shifting preferences of viewers seeking content that resonates with their viewpoints.

Interesting findings on changing media consumption habits and the declining audience for broadcast television. When then, will the UK Government abolish the archaic Television Tax, more commonly known as the “licence fee”? Much like raising revenue for the Treasury through taxing petrol and diesel, raising revenue for the BBC by taxing television sets is completely unsustainable as the technology becomes obsolete. https://lnkd.in/ezUndUD8

#My2Cents This analysis of post-election tv viewership and trust misses the point. "What's interesting is that Democrats have the highest trust in mass media, yet their networks are ghost towns." https://lnkd.in/gqAs94yc The blue&purple haired virtue-signalling crowd did not switch to (equally atrocious) Fox. They switched the telly off, in order to cope with cognitive dissonance. They'll be back, like crack addicts. Plus, there's a lot that will happen to drive partisan TV talking head viewership between now and Jan 20th: wars, assassinations, more wars, crises, plagues, riots, lawfare etc. #News #MSM #Media #TV [Context: I'm into my 15th Televised-content free year. No "news", no weather, no ads, no nothing. I went from disinterest to deep aversion and won't share a room with a telly that's broadcasting (I'll watch movies). So I'm firmly off the plantation. No radio either]

To play the Australian national anthem using Overtone, you need to define the notes and their durations. Here's an example of Overtone code to play "Advance Australia Fair": ```clojure (ns australian-anthem (:require [overtone.live :as o])) (defn play-note [note duration] (o/definst note-inst [freq 440] (o/lag (o/saw freq) 0.1)) (o/play note-inst :freq (o/midi->hz note)) (Thread/sleep duration) (o/kill note-inst)) (defn play-anthem [] (let [notes [60 60 67 67 69 69 67 65 64 64 62 62 60] durations [500 500 500 500 500 500 500 500 500 500 500 500 1000]] (doseq [[note duration] (map vector notes durations)] (play-note note duration)))) (play-anthem) ``` This code sets up a simple synthesizer with a saw wave and plays a sequence of MIDI notes representing the anthem. Adjust `notes` and `durations` to match the melody and rhythm of "Advance Australia Fair." You can refine the timing and note frequencies to better match the anthem's actual sound. #WeekendCodeProjects

Blending my passion for entertainment and having a strong desire to challenge the stigmas around death and dying I came across this interesting piece of research on 'Death in Television - Flipping the Script', carried out by Rebecca Pardo, PhD, Tracy Wheeler and Shoshana Ungerleider, MD from End Well. The research shows that people get cultural cues and even medical information (or disinformation) from television. But the television narratives people draw on to make sense of the world aren't showing the full range of choices available at the end of life. Television has the power to quickly reshape culture and the potential to play a central role in improving the end-of-life journey for all. Death is something every single person experiences - and almost everyone shies away from. Yet, this lack of discussion causes immeasurable pain and confusion when people find themselves or someone they love nearing the end of life. Some key take aways from the research include: 💫 80% of people say they want to die at home, yet only 30% do. Most people die in institutions, often alone. Culturally, we've come to accept this disconnect. 💫 Over 80% of TV deaths are caused by violence 💫 The research identified several key themes that highlight the inadequacies of the current portrayal of life and death on TV including: • Death as predictable, convenient and calm • Lack of advanced care conversations • Unequal Physician - Patient dynamics • Framing of "good" death differs from how real people perceive it - TV tends to over-represent "tidy" or resolved deaths, without showing the logistical or emotional "messiness" that often accompanies the end of life. There are a lot of 'good deaths' that happen on TV - it's like "I got there just in time to say the right thing, and then the person was able to let go" • Demographic disparities • Inaccurate CPR survival rates 💫 Viewers reported processing the stories as a kind of "mental rehearsal" for scenarios that they visualised themselves handling in the future in the event of themselves of loved ones getting sick, and various conversations they'd need to have The research is really worth a read...especially for any of my entertainment industry contacts!

How Much Attention Have Presidential Year Debates Gotten On TV News Over The Years? Hint: 2012 Was The Recent Peak How much attention do presidential year debates get on television news? The timeline below shows total mentions of "debate" across CNN, MSNBC and Fox News over the past decade and a half, showing 2012 achieved peak attention. Debates have been steadily receiving less attention each year, with CNN a notable outlier this year. The build-up over the months leading up to the debate and how it has differed across each election cycle is fascinating. https://lnkd.in/eF-QbU2c
