⚜ How Has Presidential Power Augmented through the Ages? Hello everyone, I just wrote a paper for the midterm of my American Politics course about the growth of presidential power, in contrast to the decline of bipartisan authority. I think it would be a relevant read considering the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. With our current political atmosphere, it is especially important to grasp the immense extent of power that the president holds. Of note, Trump V. United States (2024) has essentially granted full immunity to presidents for any potentially criminal acts they committed while in office. Our constitutional system of checks and balances is in jeopardy, and modern presidents arguably hold more power than ever before in American history. There’s sometimes a misunderstanding of who is in the NDP’s voter universe and that New Democrats only grow at the expense of Liberals. While the NDP shares a voter universe with the Liberals in places like Vancouver, Toronto, Montréal and Halifax — in most parts of the country, the NDP shares a voter universe with Conservatives. In places like Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Southwestern Ontario, the NDP grows at the expense of the Conservatives. In the same context, if voters are looking for an alternative to the Conservatives in these ridings, that’s not the Liberals — but the NDP. In this next election, for the first time in a long time, the NDP will have a tangible program they delivered to bring to voters with dental care. When they talk to those orange-blue voters, many of which will hopefully be benefitting from dental care or will have a loved one benefitting from dental care, they’ll be able to show in a very real way the benefits of voting for them instead of the Conservatives. #cdnpoli
