My daughters' got bikes... (I got a new lesson.) This weekend, we embarked on an adventure... teaching my daughters how to ride their bikes. 🚴 The eldest got an upgrade to pedals. 🚴 The youngest got her first balance bike. We learned to get back up again if we fall. But more importantly we learnt... that learning can be fun. So this week I decided to put some learning into action. I decided to test a new format for my competitive research. And guess what? I’m rather impressed with myself! Let’s hope my clients are too. The point is, even if you think you’re doing something well, you should never be scared of trying something new or exploring other options. Here are a few steps to keep your learning journey fresh: ➡ Stay open-minded ➡ Embrace the challenges ➡ Celebrate all the small wins ➡ Reflect and adapt as needed Remember, one solution might not meet the needs of different people. So changing it up time to time can give you new options. Keep learning, keep adapting, and enjoy the ride. What did you learn this week? 👇

📚🚀Day01/39: Our Education System Sucks! Did you know there are three types of learners? 🧠 Auditory learners learn by listening, visual learners learn by seeing, and kinesthetic learners learn through experience. But guess what? We're all a bit kinesthetic because we learn best by doing! Our education system focuses on telling us 'what to learn', not 'how to apply' it. Instead of encouraging us to think, it's all about memorizing and repeating information. Imagination and curiosity, our greatest assets which the education system is killing from day one. 🏫 School and colleges gives us participation certificates, but "life me kuchh nahi milta participation ka", nobody cares if you just showed up. Life isn't fair, it's tough. 💪We need to embrace the unfairness and learn to navigate it. Key Takeaways: 1. Understand how you learn. 2. Stay curious and ask questions. 3. Participation doesn't count in the real world. 4. Life is tough, not fair. 5. Build a strong human network. 🤝Let's build a brighter future together! #Day1 #LearningJourney #Growth #BookReading #BuildDontTalk

Another simple idea from simple-ideas.info: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I didn’t think it was possible, however life seems to get #busier each year that goes by. And I guess if you think about time in its totality, our time is only a brief moment. So what can we do to ensure we don’t let the busy-ness keep us from growing? I believe we need to remember ‘the law of #reflection. It says that learning to pause allows growth to catch up with you. Experience alone isn’t the best teacher, but reflecting on our experiences is what allows us to learn and grow. Reflection turns experience into #insight.’ (J.Maxwell) Can we allow ourselves time to be quiet, to reflect, to #ponder on what we’ve been experiencing and learning? It’s important that we do so if we truly want to improve.

Most online courses suck. The core thesis of Maven is: build courses that don’t suck. That’s why we’re cohort-based, why we recruit instructors who are truly experts in their field, and why most of our courses have live, asynchronous, and project-based components.
Online classes suck. Change my mind. I'm still blissfully enjoying my time off, but I’ve been in the mood to learn something new—on any topic. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single course that was interesting enough for me to finish. Am I looking in the wrong places?

I had a good chat with my favourite 14yo this evening. We talked about how a high IQ or a natural capacity for your educational courses doesn't necessarily set you up with the best habits. It can feel good to cruise through your tests and assignments, but being initially crap at a thing or two is integral to learning how to learn. What are your strategies, when something is important, but doesn't come naturally? How do you approach your wellbeing when you have to persevere in the discomfort of not-yet-understanding? Where does your fuel come from, and how do you engage with your environment throughout these struggles? I was a late bloomer, this way. I learnt heaps, as an undergrad with friends who had skills of perseverence and problem solving, which grew out of finding concepts hard-to-master. Over time, I really got to love the sensation of seeking the edge of my capacity, and fighting with the boundary. I learned this from people who enjoyed their own limitations and their relationship with challenge and struggle. I guess there's a complementary struggle in sitting with ourselves, as we are, and accepting our natural tendencies and capacities. A yin and yang kind of thing. Maybe writing posts at 9pm is a clue about which thing I find harder. Pushing the limits of learning to rest? 🤷🏻♀️ I don't know. Keep going. Or rest. Or something. I'm still learning. Canberra has some lovely trains, you know.

The reality is no matter what your learning style is you have to be willing to DO THE WORK. If you sign up for a boot camp you have to do the work. If you sign up for an online course you have to do the work. If you sign up for college you have to do the work.

EF skills are not automatically developed, and have to be learned. The number one predictor of EF skills development is explicit modeling by parents at home. Cleaning your room is a difficult task. When completing tasks at home, it's important to model first by doing the task yourself and talking out loud about how you are solving the problem, then showing and telling them. As an example, if you are cleaning the room in front of your child, say aloud, "I see there are a lot of clothes lying around and a lot of toys. I am going to pick up all the clothes first, as they go together, then I will pick up all the toys." Then proceed with organizing the room as indicated. When your child has to clean their room the next time, give these same instructions to scaffold their learning. Decide together what they should work on first and why. Once they're done with step one, help them pick the next one. Slowly build up their organizational skills this way, to make the act of cleaning easier. #organizeskills #learnEFskills #tiptuesday #mentalhealth
