Hai Long Offshore Wind Project | 2024 Construction Highlights This year has been transformative for the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project, with significant progress achieved following the commencement of offshore construction earlier in 2024. Key construction milestones include: ✅Fabrication completion of critical wind farm components ✅Successful installation of the Hai Long 2 offshore substation and offshore substation jacket foundation for Hai Long 3 ✅Successful installation of wind turbine foundations for Hai Long 2 Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for major activities in 2025: ⚡️Transportation and installation of the offshore substation topside for Hai Long 3 ⚡️Wind turbine installation for Hai Long 2 and wind turbine foundations installation for Hai Long 3 ⚡️Subsea cable laying, and system testing Tim Kittelhake, CEO and Project Director of Hai Long, shared, “We are thrilled to see the wind farm construction progressing on schedule. With the unwavering support of the government, strong partnerships with contractors, the friendly local community, and a dedicated project team, Hai Long remains committed to the highest health, safety, and environmental standards. By 2025 and 2026, we aim to connect the farms to the grid and become the largest offshore wind project in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region, contributing significantly to Taiwan’s energy transition goals.” These achievements underscore Hai Long’s steady progress and its role in shaping Taiwan’s sustainable energy future. The offshore wind industry is projected to invest $65 billion towards projects by 2030, supporting 56,000 U.S. jobs, finds ACP’s latest Offshore Wind Market Report. The new analysis shows that in the U.S. there is currently 12 GW of projects with active offtake agreements and 4 GW under active construction at Vineyard Wind, Revolution Wind and the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind projects. Across 37 leases in the U.S., there are now 56 GW of capacity under development, which could provide enough electricity to power the equivalent of 22 million homes.   The new report also highlights the economic impact of offshore wind on domestic U.S. shipbuilding, port infrastructure, and other supply chain activities. A big puzzle piece of a robust and resilient supply chain for offshore wind is harbours. We need more harbours with the necessary size and infrastructure for the loading of large components and space for construction vessels, or the expansion of offshore wind could face serious delays. To incentivise investments, it may be worthwhile to highlight the enormous economic potential these ports can unlock for their regions.   Offshore ports are more than logistical hubs – they play a crucial role in advancing the energy transition and serve as powerful economic engines for their regions.     Take Eemshaven in the Netherlands for example. Initially built as an industrial port in the 1970s, it has evolved into a central hub for the offshore wind industry, with more than 20 offshore projects already launched from here - including our operating Kaskasi offshore wind farm as well as Thor under construction in Denmark.    Today, the port, with its four harbour basins, hosts nearly 50 offshore-related companies, creating numerous jobs in the area. And it’s not just wind energy. The Port of Eemshaven has attracted companies from various sectors that benefit from its highly specialised infrastructure, transforming the region into a hub for not only offshore but also other renewable energy projects. Among these is our hydrogen initiative – a 100 MW electrolyser development project as part of our OranjeWind system integration solutions.   However, finding and developing areas and harbours as specialized as Eemshaven is challenging. Storing and assembling the large components of offshore turbines requires lots of space as well as special equipment and solid soil for heavy load quays. An excellent and modern infrastructure to get the components to the port is a must. The highly specialised construction ships need water depths between 7 to 14 metres – otherwise they cannot enter the port.    These and other factors make it hard to find designated areas which can be developed into offshore ports. All the more important is the approval by the German government and the EU to expand the harbour in Cuxhafen by an additional 38 hectares of heavy-duty logistics space.

COWI's fifty-four #offshorewind turbine foundation designs for Equinor's Empire Wind 1 project for New York have received approval from the certified verification Agent (CVA) as required by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. As part of the project, COWI developed advanced methods to analyze and model the behavior of the complex soils the foundations would be installed in. COWI also developed more accurate methods to determine wave loads on the foundation structures. These advancements allowed for more efficient foundations, reducing steel weight, embodied carbon and costs, and are examples of COWI’s commitment to excellence, innovation and advancing the state-of-the-art in offshore wind engineering. https://lnkd.in/e74dUv_7

UK New Civil Engineer Plan released to triple offshore wind supply chain and achieve £25bn economic boost by 2035 A roadmap to tripling the UK’s offshore wind manufacturing capability and providing a £25bn boost to the economy by 2035 has been released by key players in the nation’s offshore wind industry. RenewableUK, the Offshore Wind Industry Council, the Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland have put together the Industrial Growth Plan (IGP), which will harness the success story of UK offshore wind and “firmly establish the UK as a leader in a surging global market”. The offshore wind industry in the UK currently employs 32,000 people and each new GW of offshore energy adds £2bn to £3bn to the economy, according to the IGP. With the UK aiming to have 50GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, the industry is already projected to reach over 100,000 jobs by 2030 and provide £92bn in economic opportunities by 2040.

Construction giant awarded multimillion-dollar contract to transform major seaport into one of nation's largest offshore wind projects — here's its expected potential - In a major step forward for clean energy, construction giant Skanska has been awarded an $861 million contract to transform the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal into one of the nation's largest offshore wind ports, according to Electrek. - This critical infrastructure project, set to run through 2026, will support the 2.1 gigawatt Empire Wind project currently being developed by Equinor just off the coast of New York. With 147 turbines, Empire Wind will have the capacity to power over 1 million households with renewable energy. -The 73-acre seaport transformation involves demolishing existing buildings, preparing the site to stage massive wind turbine components, installing underground utilities, and adding two new heavy-lift crane pads.
