In September this year, the Summit of the Future will take place in the margins of the #UNGA. The Summit is intended to create the conditions in which implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development can more readily be achieved. 🌍 What are the 3 Common Errors in Implementing the SDG Agenda 2030? The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. However, the journey towards achieving these goals has encountered several hurdles. 1. Lack of Integrated Planning: Many countries fail to incorporate the SDGs into their national development plans in a holistic manner. This results in fragmented efforts that do not address the interconnectivity of the goals, both at national and international level. 2. Insufficient Funding and Investment: Financial constraints and the inability to mobilize sufficient resources hinder the progress towards achieving the SDGs. This includes both domestic funding and international aid. 3. Weak Data and Monitoring Systems: Effective implementation of the SDGs requires robust data collection and monitoring systems. Many countries struggle with outdated or inadequate data, making it challenging to track progress and make informed and holistic decisions. Solutions to foster the implementation of Agenda 2030 include: Adopt an Integrated Approach: Governments should develop comprehensive strategies that align national policies with the SDGs, ensuring that initiatives are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. Cross-sector collaboration is key to addressing the multidimensional nature of sustainable development. Massive scale up development and climate financing: There is urgent need to scale up both concessional and non-concessional affordable and long-term financing for the Goals and climate action. Move to “crowd in” private sector financing and with policy de-risking (building domestic enabling environments for sustainable development investment, strengthening capacity building). Strengthen Data Infrastructure: Investing in modern data collection and monitoring technologies is essential. Establishing strong national statistical systems and collaborating with international organizations for capacity building can significantly improve data quality and availability. By addressing these critical areas, the international community will be able to make significant strides towards realizing the ambitious targets set by the SDGs. 🌟 To know about the Summit of the Future 👉 https://lnkd.in/eziZi7ZN #SDGs #Agenda2030 #SustainableDevelopment #GlobalGoals #Innovation #CooperationFrameworks #UN2.0 #JeRameneMaFraise @NinaRamen If you have just discovered me, my name is Beatriz Hernández Narváez, I am an internationalist with more than 20 years of diplomatic experience. 📅 Mark your calendars for September 22-23, 2024! The United Nations' Summit of the Future is set to take center stage. This pivotal event is crucial for our global pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🌍 Farid Belhaj’s piece, "The UN-led Summit for the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow or Yet Another Hoax?", raises concerns about whether the upcoming summit will break the UN's pattern of unmet promises. Past initiatives have faced challenges with funding, complex implementation, and political will. As the summit approaches, the key question remains: Will it deliver genuine progress or repeat the cycle of unfulfilled commitments? 🔍🌟 #UNSummit2024 #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #GlobalAction #FutureOfOurPlanet #UnitedNations

🌍 Transforming Brazil's G20 Presidency into a Platform for Change 🌿 On February 8th, I had the honor of participating in a crucial meeting between the Federal Government and Civil Society representatives, discussing Brazil's role in the G20 presidency. This meeting was a milestone, anticipating a significant event: in September, within the UN premises, the G20 will hold a open meeting to non-member countries, extending an invitation to global dialogue. This scenario puts Brazil in a unique position to lead vital discussions. A strategic issue emerged: the importance of centering certain discussions elsewhere. One of these examples is climate. It was argued that given the current political conjunctures, especially the influence of the G77+China group such debates should be centered at COP. **Do you agree? Let me know in the comments** But even with this division of topics, there is a need to create bridges between major international events, such as the G20 and COP30. That has never been more pressing. This is the moment to align agendas, visions, and efforts to tackle global challenges in a unified manner. The real legacy of Brazil's G20 presidency could be precisely this: initiating and effectively promoting social participation in this process. Although we are far from ideal, this step could lay the groundwork for significant advancements in the future. Propositively, I see three key actions to maximize our impact: 1) Foster Inclusive Dialogues; 2) Integrate Environmental Agendas; and 3) Promote Transparency and Social Participation. By assuming the G20 presidency, Brazil has the opportunity to lead by example, showing that it is possible and necessary to include civil society in the conversations that shape our future. Let's build together a legacy of openness, dialogue, and effective climate action. 🌱💼 #G20Brazil #Climate #SocialInnovation #CivicParticipation

G20: Shaping Global Cooperation for a Sustainable Future The Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 countries plus the European Union, with the African Union joining in 2023, solidifying its status as a premier forum for international cooperation. Since its inception in 1999, the G20 has played a pivotal role in addressing global challenges and fostering economic stability and growth on a worldwide scale. At the heart of the G20's mission is the promotion of dialogue and collaboration among its diverse member states, representing over 80% of global GDP and two-thirds of the world's population. This inclusive approach enables the G20 to tackle a wide range of issues, from financial regulation to sustainable development, by seeking common ground and forging consensus-based solutions. Saudi Arabia, as a prominent member of the G20, has played a crucial role in shaping the agenda and advancing key priorities within the group. With its strategic location and significant economic influence, Saudi Arabia has actively contributed to efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development, fostering innovation, and enhancing global cooperation. In 2024, the G20 summit is set to take place in Brazil, marking a significant milestone in the group's history. Brazil, as the host country, has an opportunity to showcase its commitment to multilateralism and inclusive growth while addressing pressing global challenges. The G20 summit in Brazil is expected to focus on a range of critical issues, including climate change, economic recovery, and sustainable development. With the world facing unprecedented challenges, the G20's role in fostering cooperation and solidarity among nations has never been more crucial. As we look ahead to the G20 summit in Brazil, it is essential to reaffirm our commitment to international cooperation and collective action. By working together through platforms like the G20, we can build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable world for future generations. The G20 remains at the forefront of global efforts to address the most pressing challenges of our time. With Saudi Arabia's active participation and the upcoming summit in Brazil, the G20 continues to be a beacon of hope for a brighter, more prosperous future. #G20 #GlobalCooperation #Sustainability #EconomicDevelopment

Dear friends, The esteemed Azerbaijani🇦🇿 scholar, Dr. Nargiz Uzeir HAJIYEVA , who is also the first Azerbaijani political scientist to teach at the University of Michigan, has co-authored a remarkable study with the Rector of UNEC, Professor Adalat Muradov. Their research, titled "The Application of the Green Economy Policy of Switzerland to the Karabakh Region of Azerbaijan: A Review and Appraisal," has been published in the prestigious Emerald publication's book, "Green Management: A New Paradigm in the World of Business" (Chapter 7). This groundbreaking research explores the application of Switzerland’s green economy policies in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, highlighting the potential benefits and feasibility of implementing such strategies. By merging Azerbaijan’s renewable energy capabilities with Switzerland’s innovative expertise, the study provides valuable insights into advancing sustainable development in the region. The publication of this research is especially significant as it coincides with Azerbaijan’s hosting of #COP29, a monumental global climate conference. It not only emphasizes Azerbaijan’s commitment to global climate action but also showcases its growing intellectual contributions to sustainable development and green economy discussions on the world stage. I wholeheartedly recommend attending Dr. Nargiz’s upcoming training session, where she will share more about her expertise and insights in this field. Language can be powerful. The new Pact for the Future builds on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, adding a subject (we), a strong verb (will), and a predicate (the action we commit to achieving). As Nelson Mandela said: "Action without vision is only passing time, vision without action is merely day dreaming, but vision with action can change the world." (Thanks, Melissa and Shelly for the inspiration https://lnkd.in/eAvB-yhF) How about we each pick 1-3 of these incredibly important actions and commit to doing everything we can --as consumers, professionals, and citizens-- to achieving them? Here come mine. What are yours? Action 12. We will plan for the future and strengthen our collective efforts to turbocharge the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by 2030 and beyond --> End short-termism Action 28. We will seize the opportunities presented by science, technology and innovation for the benefit of people and planet --> Turbocharge innovation Action 53. We will develop a framework on measures of progress on sustainable development to complement and go beyond gross domestic product --> Quantify health & real prosperity of all beings And as a stretch goal for all of humanity, I would commend us all to commit to Action 18. We will build and sustain peace ☮ https://lnkd.in/enKrMGW3 #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #PactForTheFuture #SDGs #CommitToAction #YesWeWill Melissa Leitner Gillian Rutherford Daniel Martin Eckhart Felipe Stevenson Vicci Xi F Shaun Tarbuck Liam Carter Stefanie Spescha Salomon Billeter Sofia Fellini Samantha Dunn Christelle Lim-Severe Tom Ewart Chad Park Lorcán Hall Patrick Paul Walsh Antony Ireland Diana Diaz Castro Joe Mudge Monica Niles, CPHR, SHRM-SCP Andrea Salemme Patrizia Kern-Ferretti Rebecca Watson Clare Saxon Ghauri Dr Nicola Ranger Dr. Diana Alvarez-Marin Betina Del Valle Azugna Marie-Paule Peeters

We cant build a future for our grandchildren with a system built for our grandparents. António Guterres 1/17/2024 The Summit of the Future will be held next week at the United Nations. (https://lnkd.in/dfEZB9nb) 2 or 3 Nordic countries are making real progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. That leaves about 190+ not making such progress. Governments cannot and will not save us. These SDG's might, if we empower the UN, and we ALL get to work. Maybe. Good luck next week Antonio.
