We are making the world more sustainable, day after day 🚗 ⚡ 🌎 Tesla was founded to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Our mission is not just about the future of our planet, but also about preventing over 8 million premature deaths each year caused by pollution from burning fossil fuels. 20 million metric tons of CO2e emissions have been avoided by our customers in 2023.   While EVs currently have a higher GHG footprint through the manufacturing phase, a single Tesla vehicle will avoid 51 tons of CO2e over its life. As electricity generation becomes cleaner over time, this impact will grow. As opposed to fossil fuel extraction, raw materials needed for batteries are not single use – instead, they can be recycled and be used to build new products. Even at peak demand, a transition to a sustainable energy economy will result in 18 gigatons less of raw material extraction each year.   Our batteries are designed to outlast the life of the vehicle – after 200 000 miles (over 320 000 km), Model 3 & Y retain 85% of their original capacity on average. None of our batteries go to landfills – at the end of their usable life, we recycle them to build brand-new battery packs. ⚡ 🖤  

Highlight for me, personally, & my bottom line: "20 Million Metric Tons of CO2e Avoided: In pursuit of our mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy, we build products that are designed to replace some of the planet’s biggest polluters. Every product we sell helps owners lower emissions. In 2023, our customers avoided releasing over 20 million metric tons of CO2e into our atmosphere."

Our 2023 Tesla Impact Report is out - it's been a ride this year and I'm very proud with how far we've come and what my #sustainability team has been able to accomplish. Some highlights: - This year we announce our decarbonization strategy and journey towards #netzero GHG emissions and 100% operational renewable electricity. - Our Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory was 100% renewable electricity this year and our supercharger network is 100% renewable energy for the 3rd year in a row. - Our avoided emissions went up 50% and continues to grow year on year - our products are massively contributing to the decarbonization of society. - We continue to be leaders in water use reduction across the globe and especially in Germany. - We conducted LCAs of our Standard Range RWD Model 3 and Model Y for the first time - EVs continue to be better than ICE vehicles and continue to get better year on year while the grid gets greener. - Our #batteryrecycling efforts are growing - this year we supported the recovery of enough battery materials to make 43,000 Model Y vehicles. Our 2023 Impact Report is out, and it’s a reflection of why we show up to work everyday. No matter what preconceptions you may have about Tesla, I’d urge everyone to take a peak because this report is worth the read. But if you don’t check out all 160 pages, so here are some of my favorite takeaways: -20 million metric tons of CO2e avoided in 2023! That’s like driving 51 BILLION miles in an ICE car. -After 10 years of driving, a Tesla avoids 20 metric tons of CO2e! Yes, this accounts for the need to offset the higher emissions of manufacturing an EV vs an ICE vehicle. -100% of Superchargers are powered by 100% renewable energy! Now you understand why it was so important to open these up to the other OEMs. Bonus fact: they’ve been 100% renewable for the past 3 years. -100% of Gigafactory Berlin energy usage was matched with 100% renewable energy! That’s a factory with the capacity to build over 375,000 vehicles per year. -Tesla solar products generated enough to power all of Tesla’s operations 3 times over! This includes manufacturing, service centers, and the excessive amount of monitors at my desk. -90% of our manufacturing waste is recycled (paper, plastic, metal, etc), and we use 26% less water to produce a car than the average ICE vehicle! -Model Y and Model 3 are priced below the average new vehicle cost in the US! Affordability should never be a barrier to sustainability. Big shoutout to our ESG org for this report! As the problem of chemical battery pollution begins to surface, I hope that all strategic entrepreneurs will see that my new patent application: The ZY centrifugal energy storage continuously variable transmission has a very wide transmission ratio range with high transmission efficiency. It can achieve direct mechanical transmission between the flywheel and the wheels. It does not require expensive vacuum chambers and magnetic bearings. It can replace batteries with hundreds of kilograms of steel. Therefore, its comparable cost is 30%-60% lower than that of current EVs. The FHEV can be slowly charged using a traditional EV charging device in the garage, or a quick one-minute mechanical charging at the roadside pile according to my invention.  I agree with the view that principal patents alone are not enough. To win the half-price competition for higher-performance vehicles that may be coming soon, applying for series product patents in more countries, especially in China and India, is the first key. I also particularly encourage Chinese and Indian companies to do the same. For our common ideal of protecting the environment.

Three years ago, I embarked on a transformative journey, pivoting my career towards sustainability engineering. Motivated by a profound belief that there must be a better way for humanity to coexist with our planet, I embraced this path with unwavering determination. Though perhaps idealistic, this conviction fueled my decision to transition. Exactly a year ago, a remarkable opportunity materialized: joining the ranks of Tesla. Since then, I've immersed myself in the intricate realm of product life cycle assessments, gaining invaluable insights into the obstacles hindering the decarbonization of crucial industries. Yet, amid these challenges, my optimism remains steadfast. Collaborating with exceptional minds at Tesla, I'm reminded daily of our collective commitment to effecting meaningful change. On this anniversary, I'm thrilled to unveil the impact report I contributed to at Tesla. As I delve deeper into the complexities of sustainability, I'm increasingly cognizant of the daunting nature of the solutions we seek. Nonetheless, Tesla stands at the vanguard of the sustainable living movement, and I'm eager to share some of the milestones from our 2023 endeavors! My favorite part?
