"Leadership is not about titles, positions, or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another." - John C. Maxwell This quote really resonated with me. As leaders, our impact extends far beyond org charts - it's about the positive influence we have on those around us. What's one way you've positively influenced someone on your team recently? Love the quote Tess Honan, CMP. John Maxwell popped up on my feed talking about his book, so I guess he's a common denominator for us both today. An event organizer today e-mailed and said that I'm amazing to work with and can't wait to meet ne as we prepare for a big event. I guess the positive influence is that my passion and commitment to going above and beyond to add surplus value is appreciated! As I write this I realize that the organizer has had a very positive influence on me, too, for appreciating the preparation! We're setting each other up for success. Organizers who set up speakers for success are setting the event up for success and setting the tone for positive influence on all attendees.
I was lucky enough to grow up in an industry and org that was more customer and project based. Therefore our teams were often fluid and came from various parts of the org. The final 10 years at EDS/HP, I had few to no direct reports. I tapped into thousands of folks to make outcomes happen for clients. This sharpened my influencing skills tremendously.
My career as a coach allows me to positively impact people. I have been speaking with a client who is going through a very difficult time. I met with him on Friday, I shared a funny positive video over the weekend, I sent him a positive mantra on Monday. All of these actions make me feel more needed and helped him shift his mindset to be more positive, Tess Honan, CMP.
Great first post, Tess Honan, CMP and welcome to our group. Each month I see growth in the members of my Vistage group. And many simple offer a "Thank you for the help." That's means everything.
Tess Honan, CMP Your post resonates. I believe leaders have a wonderful opportunity to contribute to their subordinates' well-being. It is part of their impact for good. This should include mentoring employees in their roles and helping prepare them as future leaders.
Tess, John C. Maxwell's quote captures the essence of true leadership beautifully. It's about meaningful influence. Inspiring post!
Agreed! Leadership is about making a positive impact on others.
Love that quote and perspective!

8moSometimes I don't get the knowledge of how I have impacted, and I need to find evidence for myself. That's the life of a coach. However, I am in a text group with a few people and we report out our fitness accomplishments on a daily basis. We encourage each other and one member stated he's lost 20 pounds since January due to that group support. Thank you Tess Honan, CMP. One thing we need to do more for ourselves is monitor our impact on the world so in the low times we have data not just the recency effect!
