ANSWER: Also known as overlay or re-cover roofing, this method involves installing new roofing material, usually asphalt shingles, over the existing roof without removing the old shingles. Buckling of asphalt shingles can occur in new roofs or reroofing, and is most often the result of wrinkles in the roofing underlayment or movement of the wood decking. Moisture-induced deck effects typically show a pattern of shingle distortions coincidental with joints in the roof deck panels/lumber. Here is what you need to know when specifying a random roofing effect: There are two random slating patterns: Random Width – using roofing slates of the same length but in random widths Random Width in Diminishing Courses – using roofing slates of random width in courses of progressively shorter length (towards the roof’s ridge). Today we will speak about the size and coverage. To achieve random slating effects, pallets are supplied in “Random Width” – all roofing slates are the same length but are of random width. Length – ranges from 300mm to 500mm in 50mm increments Width – ranges from 150mm to 450mm in 25mm increments (but most are between 200mm and 300mm) For example, SSQ Riverstone Random roofing slate can cover between 22m2 and 24m2 per tonne using an overlap of 75mm to 100mm. A Diminishing Course effect – roofing slates of the same width but in courses of progressively shorter length – is achieved by ordering slates of random width and in the various lengths required. If you’d like advice about random roofing slates, or any other ‘special effect’, our technical experts are here to help you. 📣 Flat Roof Friday 📣 Low-slope roofing tapered insulation systems are made up of a series of insulation panels to create the desired slope to prevent water ponding and proper drainage. Taper systems are typically made up of ISO, EPS, and XPS because of their durability and thermal properties. Proper maintenance is essential to maximize the performance and durability of these systems. To ensure they maintain proper functionality and longevity, the primary concerns for these systems are: ➡️ Debris buildup ➡️ Damage to insulation panels ➡️ Proper continued drainage Since these roofs are designed based on the individual needs of each roof, those not accustomed to estimating for these systems may find it challenging. However, below is a link to our white paper on how to utilize Xactimate to estimate properly for the repair or replacement of a taper system. https://lnkd.in/eU_zGjZ6
