Our team really enjoyed connecting with so many amazing small businesses at the Society of American Military Engineers Small Business Conference. We’re honored to have been recognized by SAME’s Small Business Community of Interest for the “Best Booth” in the Large Business Category. The judges recognized our diligent efforts to create a space that was welcoming for meeting with small business partners. Every time we attend a #SAMESBC, we’re reminded why we put so much time and care into our small business partnerships: – The technical innovation and new perspectives that come from small businesses – The deep and shared commitment to providing the best service to our clients – The amazing people who we feel lucky to call partners, collaborators, and oftentimes friends We believe we are the ideal partner for small businesses and strive to live up to that on every project. If you missed us at #SAMESBC24, let's talk about how we can work together. Get in touch here: https://hubs.la/Q02ZtLXg0.

In the military, before embarking on any task or exercise, we lived by the acronym of the **7 P’s** – *Proper Preparation and Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.* This principle has stayed with me ever since and remains highly relevant in every aspect of life, especially in business. 60% of new businesses fail within their first three years. Does this mean that the businesses that succeed are inherently better? Not necessarily. But what often sets successful businesses apart is their preparation. They plan effectively, surround themselves with the right people, and most importantly, they take action. In business, as in the military, preparation is key.

“If you’re a small business that’s never worked with a large business before, consider what clients you have in common as a starting point,” said #AECOM’s Shawn Ralston. He and other panelists shared advice and best practices for effectively utilizing large business relationships to win work at the Society of American Military Engineers Small Business Conference. “When pursuing subcontracting opportunities, lead with what you can offer the large company,” he said. “Large businesses are looking to partner with small firms that will enhance the team, help with selection, and boost performance.” See our full #SAMESBC24 lineup: www.aecom.com/sbc Read more about our small biz program: www.aecom.com/smallbiz #AECOMVoices
