🇪🇺🇦🇱 On the path to EU membership, Albania has entered a crucial phase of negotiations, structured into key clusters that cover various aspects of governance and reform. One of the most important is the Fundamentals cluster, which includes vital areas such as the rule of law, judiciary, human rights, and public administration. These reforms will set the tone for the rest of the accession process. In my interview for Klan TV I explain the body of EU laws that Albania must fully align with. In some areas, the EU holds exclusive competence, meaning only the EU can legislate and adopt binding policies—this covers critical areas like customs union, competition policy, trade agreements, and monetary policy for Eurozone members. Aligning with these standards is a complex and transformative challenge, but it’s a vital step toward full integration into the European Union. New political conditions for Türkiye by the EU Council Summit The European Union (EU) Council summit, which convened recently, devoted two paragraphs of its final declaration to Türkiye’s relations with the EU. The document connected the improvement of relations with the resolution of the Cyprus issue. The Joint Communication emphasizes the need for collaboration with Ankara, including revitalizing the Customs Union. Türkiye's constructive efforts, such as respecting EU member states' rights and addressing the EU's concerns, will determine gradual implementation of measures with determined conditionality. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected any attempts to link the Cyprus issue with progress in Türkiye-EU relations. Read the report by Yakup Can Y. here: https://lnkd.in/dpNVjC7z

📣 UK must suspend trade talks and privileges with Israel, NGOs say 📣 We alongside 20+ other NGOs including Amnesty International UK, Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights, and War on Want – have written to the UK Government following the ICJ July 19 Advisory Opinion, which placed an obligation on all countries including the UK not to aid or assist Israel’s occupation. The UK’s plans for deeper trade relations look almost certain to benefit industries involved in breaches of international law. Instead of supporting a nation under investigation for genocide, this government must use every means at its disposal to end this violence. https://lnkd.in/e8Yp2UVY

Entry into the EU 🇪🇺🇺🇦The start of negotiations with the European Union is a very important event. But it is much more important what the final terms of the agreement will be and when the entry will take place. 📍In order for the agreement to be beneficial to Ukraine, it is necessary to form a high-quality negotiating group from each component, which will include not so much loyal authorities as specialists. 📍In order for accession to take place faster, Ukraine must meet the Copenhagen criteria - among them democracy, human rights and the functioning of independent state institutions. Well, the problems of corruption have become less, and with such a mafia of judges and prosecutors, nothing really shines. That is, cleaning is bare work. They will not put order in our house for us. 🔴 And the negotiations themselves can last for years - as in Albania, Serbia and Montenegro. Or frozen for decades, as with Turkey. Therefore, it will be necessary to celebrate on the day of admission, and today to seriously start preparing for a long and difficult process. @zakrytazona

This morning, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered its Order on the Request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by Mexico in the case concerning the Embassy of Mexico in Quito (Mexico v. Ecuador). The Court unanimously found that the circumstances, as they now present themselves to the Court, are not such as to require the exercise of its power under Article 41 of the Statute to indicate provisional measures. Additionally, the Court emphasized the fundamental importance of the principles enshrined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. 📄𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 by Reinhold Brender "Georgia at a Crossroads: An Increasingly Illiberal Domestic Policy is becoming an Obstacle to EU Accession" EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations * This policy brief suggests that the EU should consider imposing targeted sanctions if additional measures are needed, although unanimity among member states may be difficult to achieve * Georgia faces a defining moment. The recent adoption of a Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, modelled on Russian legislation, clashes with Georgia’s goal of EU accession * The law allows for extensive control and elimination of civil society and critical voices, which contradicts the democratic principles required for EU membership #EU #Georgia 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJecMrQq
