A hill that I will die on...the best Chief-of-Staff that you can hire is someone already on your team. Think about it. CoS is a role that requires deep expertise on how your exec team operates, company goals, and team culture. You have two options: 1) Someone from your team who already knows most of this. 2) Someone external, who doesn't know most of this. The answer feels obvious when you look at it that way.

Guess what time it is?! It's 'Ask The Hiring Manager' time!! 😁 🎊 . On this episode of Ask the Hiring Manager, I sit down with the (very impressive) CEO of Clearbrook Global, Elliott W Wislar. Clearbrook Global is a diversified asset management company with over $11B in assets under management, headquartered in New York with international offices (Oh, and Clearbrook is hiring! 😃 ). https://lnkd.in/ePkRfJSE Some interesting topics that Elliott and I discuss during this Ask The Hiring Manager session include: -Elliott’s financial background / career history pre-Clearbrook, including how he and his team grew assets from $6B to $226B in 11 years while at FleetBoston. -Inequities between women and men in finance and how Elliott helped to balance the scale for women in finance, in the 1990s/early 2000s, deciding between family and career. -The importance of empowering women, the LBGTQ community, and minorities and embracing overall diversity to enable more success in the financial sector. -The benefits of a flexible remote work model. -Why Elliot started Clearbook, services Clearbrook offers, and the company’s model of full transparency and client advocacy. -How competitive sports strategies helps one to get ahead in business. And of course we hit on usual hiring manager topics, including: -Roles Clearbrook has hired for (including senior management / trading positions) -What attributes Elliot looks for in a senior manager / Clearbrook staff member. -The little (but important) things that stick out to Elliott in a resume. Elliott is the last thing from the typical finance guy as he is multifaceted and multitalented; he has studied Japanese, is a competitive sailor (won two championships and participated in the Olympics!), and recently published a book (‘Voyage to Victory—Stories and Strategies for Resilience, risk and Reward’). To find out more about the Clearbrook check out www.clearbrookglobal.com and, as always, stay tuned and subscribe to this YouTube channel and the Ask The Hiring Manager Spotify channel for more great interviews with top hiring managers! #askthehiringmanager #hiringmanager #clearbrookglobal #financejobs #clearbrook #podcasting #CPRW #resumewriter #resumemakeover

After 30 years in business, one question I am always asked is: “What makes a great employee?” The short answer is: Hardworking, emotionally intelligent team players. For CNBC Make It, I shared my long answer: employees who embody integrity and collaboration, and live up to my long-time mantra of “hungry, humble, and smart.” Why integrity? Because our clients trust us not only for our skills but also for our honest and ethical behavior. Why collaboration? We’re a team, first and foremost, and our success is built on a positive and collaborative work environment. I value emotional intelligence just as much as education and professional background. Why hungry, humble, and smart? The mantra speaks for itself! Humility, drive, and EQ are incredibly important for great client services and exceptional work. I am proud to say that every member of the McKissack & McKissack team embodies these traits, and we are always looking for the next great team member. Head to our careers page (linked in the comments) to view our open positions! Also make sure you read Ashton Jackson’s article also linked in the comments. #architecture #engineering #construction

🙃 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗺𝗲... It may obvious, but I was just sitting back, thinking of what to say to my LinkedIn network today, and the thought went through my head... I've never met, talked to, or interacted with most of you. I am here to network, build relationships, and hopefully help facilitate a connection between companies and the talent they are seeking. So, today I will share a little about myself! 1. My career was mostly in operations. I worked my way up from an Assistant Manager at SuperAmerica (Speedway), to eventually become a District Manager, a role I then held for roughly 6 years and through 4 acquisitions. I stayed in operations as an Association Manager for a little under 5 years with FirstService Residential, where I picked up some additional skills. 2. I have an entreprenurial streak... I always have had an itch to make something of my own. I was approached to take over the ownership of an adult recreational kickball league (MUSA - Twin Cities) back in 2022 aftwr participating in the league for some time. That ignited my streak and motivated me to become a parter at EHS Recruiting Company, along with my life partner, Lauren Hodges, and our business partner, Vanessa Coates. 3. I like being creative, but was never that artistically gifted, so I dabble in photography, social media, and some other areas that have served as outlets. Now I get to flex those muscles a bit, running the social media accounts for our office, EHS Recruiting Company - Southern California. 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄!? Feel free to drop questions in the comments for a little Q&A! #QandA #gettoknowme #bio #biography #aboutme #askme

EA vs. Chief of Staff vs. COO: What’s the Difference? 🤷🏻♀️ One of the most common questions I hear is: How do these roles differ? 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 ⬇️ 🔑 𝗘𝗔: 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 → Focuses on executive and administrative support: scheduling, travel logistics, and managing day-to-day tasks. 💡 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳: 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 → A strategic partner to their principal, focused on high-impact initiatives in 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 to align the organization with big-picture goals. ⚙️ 𝗖𝗢𝗢: 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 → Focused on the entire organization’s performance, driving operational functions, and often building and managing a team. Each role is critical to a well-functioning team, but understanding their differences ensures you’re building the right structure for success. 👋 Hi, I’m Clara, a former Chief of Staff & founder of Ask a Chief of Staff, where we help empower Chiefs of Staff through community, coaching, and placement. 🛎️ Follow for more insights on the Chief of Staff role!
