🎄 Is Your Team Ready for the Festive Season 🎄 Christmas Parties are a highlight of the year, but for HR leaders, they can also raise questions: - Do your managers know how to handle potential issues? - Are your employees aware of their rights and responsibilities? - Are you meeting your obligations under the Worker Protection Act? As Lee Chambers puts it "don't facilitate any nightmares before Christmas" 👉 Send me a message if you need support: - Reviewing your policies and obligations under the Worker Protection Act - Updating your risk register to proactively manage the risk of sexual harassment. - Training and equipping your managers with the skills to handle harassment complaints and employee disputes effectively and in line with legal requirements.

Pallas had our 3rd annual Christmas party last week. And it gave me the chance to reflect not only on my colleagues and the law practice we have created together, but more broadly on the experience of working together in a company. We were of course only one of tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of companies having Christmas parties in Britain. Most of us do it because we want to, and most of us enjoy it (sometimes too much – must stay out of Roll on Friday…) Which is to say, we enjoy simply spending time with the people we work with – almost as if they’re friends. Which is a weird and a wonderful thing, since most people would say the main reason we work for a company is to make a living, hopefully doing something we like. We don’t says we work for companies to make friends, or to be with our friends. And yet, maybe we do. If not, we’d be a strange sort of species to spend so much time in such circumstances. And if you think back to Covid, one of the things that was so horrible about it – at least for me – was that work was only about WORK. There were none of the pleasant interactions with colleagues (friends?) that played such a part in making work enjoyable (or at least bearable). So I guess all I’m saying is, Merry Christmas to companies, colleagues and friends alike! (The picture is 7 years old, BTW.) #xmas #bahhumbug #backtolawtomorrow

#1 CHRISTMAS PARTY TIME ... let's do some social-washing... My personal experience of Christmas parties ist somewhat mixed. Most times it did not feel right and did not convey appreciation at the end of an eventful year. Sad if one thinks how much time goes into planning, how much money is invested and how positive the employer's intention is. So what usually happens is - ooops its Christmas! - we need to do something that fits everybody - Food and drink will keep people happy - we have a budget - we need to show how we peformed .... the invite is sent... ... and most colleagues get a diffuse feeling of a "must attend" I think this is quite the contrary of what organizers intend and it leaves everybody with the sour aftertaste of a bad Glühwein/Glogg/ Vin Brulée/... In my world it is this wish to find a "one-size-fits-all" solution that is the challenge. Maybe we should remember how we choose our presents. It might be a track for a different approach.
