For Matt and Brandon Boerner, growing peanuts is a tradition that goes back six generations.
And as the urban growth of Dallas makes its way to their farm in Pilot Point, their rich legacy helps the two brothers adapt and persevere with each new season.
I'm Matthew Burner. I'm Brandon Burner. We're a six generation farmers and ranchers based in PowerPoint, Texas. We farm wheat, peanuts, oats and also operate a cow calf operation. The family farm dates back all the way to the late 1800s. We're sitting on the family farm that has been farmed ever since 1891. Back in 2008, I wanted to carry on the family tradition. It takes a team effort. It's not just one of us or anything like that. It's great to have someone to lean on and someone that you can. What makes a good painter is hot weather, sandy soil, and a good amount of rainfall or irrigation. In a timely manner. Peanut season usually starts around mid-april. Anywhere to July 15th is when we got to get those peanuts on the ground. We look at harvesting those 120 days after we plant. Harvest is a 2 step process, digging and then the harvesting. The digger, it has large knives on it that will cut the taproot. It will go up onto a conveyor chain and shake the dirt and then they'll get turned upside down and they'll drive for several days. That way we can store. You know, until they can be picked up and sent to a buying point. But we'll come in with the harvester. It'll pick those plants up and it'll separate the peanut from the vine. The vines will go out. The back peanuts will go up into a bin. Texas grown peanuts are well known for their taste and their flavor. We grow Spanish peanuts. Spanish grows the best here. Drought tolerant it is Hwy. High lake means it gives it a better shelf life. Spanish peanuts are well known and Snickers, they're well known. And holiday candies, and because of their size and because of their flavor, due to the population expansion and the urban sprawl that we're seeing here in this area, the good farmland is really getting consumed and taken up every year. It seems like the operation keeps getting smaller and smaller. We're probably one of the few peanut farmers that are left in this area. We're really trying to hold on to what we have here to be able to still maintain the the family legacy and the tradition. And we'll continue growing peanuts and we're happy to be a part of the Texas peanut industry for as long as we can be.

How's it feel to be on top nationally? Pretty dang good, actually, because it's going to create a more vibrant and successful community. ⭐️
Our fearless leader, founder Holly Leigh Davis, is currently chair of the Board of County Commissioners in Citrus County, Florida. She ran for office in 2020 because she was disturbed that the county had never had a strategic plan, 😱 something that is Job #1 for all Horsefly clients: "But first, what's the strategy?"
The National Association of Counties, in their first year of recognizing excellence in county government strategy, chose three counties out of over 3,000 nationally to be recognized, and Citrus County's plan was one of those. 🙌🏻
While Horsefly had zero to do with this plan, we're celebrating because strategic planning is our love language, and this was our founder shepherding this nationally recognized plan. 😍

As Eastern Market Partnership CEO Dan Carmody prepares to step down at year’s end, he’s thinking about all of the changes he's helped bring to Detroit’s historic Eastern Market, one of the oldest, continuously operating farmers markets in the country.
The list is long.
Carmody will hand oversight for the market, including its first new shed in more than 40 years and a $15.5 million campaign to his planned successor Katy Trudeau. He talked with Crain's Detroit Business about the things he and his team have accomplished during his tenure and how he's taking some of those strategies to markets in other parts of the country and globe.

The buffalo's strategy represents a proactive approach to difficulties. By confronting issues directly, we can often move through them more quickly and easily. Why This Strategy Works: By heading straight into the storm, buffaloes reduce the amount of time they spend exposed to its harsh conditions. #FaceIt

“We are on the rise here and there’s no one pulling us back down,” Jack Click, president of the Economic Development Corp. and a longtime resident, said. “We all work together trying to make Hitchcock the next great place. That is our culture, that everyone has a can-do attitude.”
Very excited to see our progress being highlighted. The City Of Hitchcock, Hitchcock Economic Development Corporation, and Hitchcock ISD are all working together to make our community a better place, not just for today, but for 50 years from now.

Yee- Haw! In Colorado Springs, the spirit of the West isn't just alive—it's thriving.
As the annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo draws thousands this summer, it’s a reminder that the Western spirit is much like real estate: it’s dynamic, competitive, and deeply rooted in tradition. The rodeo showcases skills, tenacity, and teamwork, much like the real estate market's demands on agents and homeowners.
At the rodeo, cowboys and cowgirls compete in various events, demonstrating the grit and determination required to succeed. This competitive energy resonates with the real estate industry, where persistence and adaptability are crucial. Just as bull riders face challenges head-on, real estate professionals navigate a volatile market with courage and skill.
What's more, the rodeo's connection to Colorado Springs' community values reflects what we aim to achieve in real estate: a sense of belonging and a celebration of the journey. From the exciting events at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo to the commitment of real estate agents to find the perfect home, it's all about creating lasting memories and connections.
So, as you enjoy the rodeo this season, remember that the same Western spirit is alive and well in Colorado Springs' real estate. It’s a journey that requires courage, commitment, and a touch of cowboy charm.
