Based on my experience working for AFRL as a blast and ballistics research engineer, the damage caused by a blast wave decreases with the cube of its radius. Therefore, anything you can do to increase the standoff distance between you and the bomb makes you exponentially safer. These spikes might not look like much, but causing the drones to detonate even 18 inches further away is a drastic improvement.

I missed a day ! Actual work (and the retirement of a ex-collegue and friend) got in the way. Sorry. There were lots of UAS on display this year. Some big , capable, damn impressive systems like the BAE STRIX (that thing is intimidating just sitting on the ground !) all the way down to some super agile BQ400 3D printed target UAVs from Boresight. We have the capability to make some very cool stuff. Our technical capability is not in doubt. The big challenge, as I see it, is high rate, ultra-large volume production. My challenge to all Defence industries isn’t - make me a better mousetrap. My challenge is - show me how you can build more, faster, for less. There is a place for exquisite, unique defence systems in the ORBAT but (increasingly) there is a critical need to be able to assemble highly effective combat systems on the kitchen table. The SYPAQ Corvo is emblematic of that trend. Lets see where that kind of thinking takes us…

Sounds like abrams is a hoax. Close the designing, scrap the rest of these rust buckets. It appeared to be worse than even T-72s and T-64s with a bbq case on their top. It was supposed to shoot a lot of ammo and hit a lot of targets at the front... Before it dies... But it doesn't work. It just dies. It doesn't need many hits. It burns like a christmas tree. For long they were supposed to defeat donkey riding middle eastern cavalry with slings and sticks. And they barely succeeded there. Today they cost a fortune. They get an automatic transmission, climax control. But require pink pony rainbow fuel, air support, intelligence support, many maintenance, electronic wonders, political support from the very top. What they have got today? No quality fuel, no air, no intelligence, no maintenance, electronics stolen and sold, and the political rooftop is kinda leaking (when not talking to invisible friends or touching children). And no dollars stuffed pinata. And the russian army is a little bit different, not a cavalry. And the armor... Tons of armor is not required any more. The modern ammo pierce 7 feet of armor like butter. The engine sux, the suspension sux, the caterpillars not replaceable in the field, the drivers drunk, the fuel stolen. Abrams is a liquid qrap bucket not suitable for any war including the contemporary war of drones. Let's wait for F-16. But you can bring F-35s already.
