𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚: 𝐀 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧 A stampede-like situation unfolded recently as over 25,000 job seekers attended a walk-in interview near Mumbai airport for just 2,216 handyman roles offered by Air India Airport Services Ltd, which promised salaries of ₹20,000–₹25,000 plus overtime and had flexible educational requirements. The chaos was such that many applicants had to leave their resumes behind. We must understand and change the process, highlighting the urgent need for better-organized recruitment events. A similar incident in Bharuch, Gujarat, underscores the challenges of managing large-scale job fairs. This situation raises important questions about the current state of the job market in India and the effectiveness of recruitment processes. Valuable insights on the future of job interviews in India by Dilip Nandkeolyar. Resumes are irrelevant in 2024.The only thing that does matter is "Potential" . Most successful organizations aren't built on perfect resumes. They're built on individuals who were given a chance and ran with it. Give potential a chance. You never know what you might find. Do share your perspective in the comments below.
THE FUTURE OF JOB INTERVIEWS IN INDIA: SHIFTING FROM DEGREES TO SKILLS The traditional job interview, focused on subjective questions and academic qualifications, is becoming outdated in India. Today, companies across various sectors are shifting their hiring practices to prioritize skills and real-world accomplishments over degrees. This shift is not just happening in the IT sector; leading Indian organizations like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Reliance Industries, and Mahindra & Mahindra are embracing competency-based hiring over the traditional degree-focused model. The “Tear the Paper Ceiling” movement, which challenges the necessity of specific degrees for certain roles, is gaining traction. In India, this shift holds particular importance as it opens doors for many talented individuals who may not hold prestigious degrees but have the skills required to excel. Structured interviews are becoming the new standard, with a focus on assessing how candidates have applied their skills in real-world scenarios. This ensures a more objective and fair hiring process, where the emphasis is placed on what you can do, not just your academic background. Here are some key strategies to prepare for this evolving interview model: 1. DECODE THE JOB DESCRIPTION: The job description is not just a list of qualifications—it’s a roadmap. Break it down to identify the skills required, both stated and implied. 2. SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS: Be prepared for practical, real-time skills assessments. Whether it's working through business case studies or demonstrating your technical expertise, be ready to prove your capabilities. 3. CRAFT SKILLS STORIES: Reflect on specific situations where you used skills like problem-solving, teamwork, or leadership to overcome challenges. These stories will serve as evidence of your abilities. 4. ALIGN WITH COMPANY VALUES: Research the company's values and align your personal experiences with their culture. Indian employers are looking for candidates who not only have the skills but also fit within their organizational ethos. 5. SPOTLIGHT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS: Go beyond talking about the team’s success. Highlight your individual role in driving that success, and provide measurable examples of your impact. Your Internship experiences must be highlighted. As India transitions to skills-based hiring, job seekers must adjust their approach. Degrees may get you through the door, but demonstrating practical skills and tangible achievements will set you apart in the evolving job market. Be prepared, collect your success stories, and showcase your skills to stand out in this new world of interviews. My best wishes! #BusinessManagement #SkillsOverDegrees #JobInterviewsIndia #HiringRevolution #CareerAdviceIndia #SkillsBasedHiring #CareerGrowth #StudentSuccess #WorkplaceSkills #CompetencyBasedHiring #InterviewPreparation #FutureOfWork

Dear Kind Ones, Six years ago, I had the privilege of teaching a student in my class at VJTI, Mumbai. He was like any other student from VJTI - hard working, sincere, determined except for one tiny fact that distinguished him from the others: Mahesh had a physical disability. Despite dealing with obstacles due to being significantly orthopaedically challenged, Mahesh would attend all my classes. He successfully completed his engineering in 2018 but unfortunately, hasn't been able to secure a job since then. He has consistently been sending out resumés, cold emailing, seeking out job fairs, appearing for interviews since the last few years yet to no avail. I find this scenario deeply concerning. A competent individual hasn't been able to secure employment in these many years. Is there truly nothing a person with physical disability can do when it comes to their career? Is this included in company CSR policies? I am unaware of the answers to these questions but I do know, that it is worth a discussion. So I am reaching out to the kind and generous ones of the LinkedIn community today. I need your expertise, your connections, and your advice to help Mahesh find a job that suits his skills and abilities. Let's start a conversation that can lead to real change. Thank you for your time and support. Kindly DM me if you have any leads or if you want me send his resumè or contact details. Please interact as much as possible for maximum reach. #JobsfortheDisabled #Equity #WorkplaceInclusivity
