📢 Just Eat’s Recent ASA Ruling: What Can Hospitality Marketers Learn? In October 2024, the ASA upheld two complaints against Just Eat’s promotions. The reasons behind this decision reveal important lessons for creating clear, trustworthy offers that protect brand integrity. ⬇️ 🔍 Lesson 1: Transparency is Key In one case, a Just Eat promotion didn’t clearly communicate that a £20 minimum order requirement excluded service fees and delivery charges. Without this clarity, the customer couldn’t redeem their £12 voucher, causing frustration. Clear terms are essential in every promotion to avoid disappointing customers and eroding trust. 🍽️ Lesson 2: Link to Relevant Content Only Another complaint involved a promotional email linked to offers unrelated to the advertised discount, creating confusion for the customer. Just Eat’s email link directed them to a page with various offers, but not all were applicable. When it comes to personalization for loyalty programs, Olga nails it here. Too often, brands make the mistake of pushing offers way out of line with a customer's typical purchase behavior. If someone always buys 2 sandwiches, it's unrealistic (and ineffective) to blast them with an offer for 6. The key is studying their cadence of purchasing and nudging them up gradually. Suggesting the addition of a cookie or side order to complement their usual. It's a smart, data-driven approach to personalization that builds lasting loyalty. One incremental step at a time.
