“The edges of properly fitted lenses should align smoothly against the sclera. When the edges lift up and away from the surface, comfort and wear time will be affected. We call this edge lift. Pictured is an extreme example of edge lift. This lens lifts off so much that it has introduced a bubble. Edge lift is usually more subtle. The classic sign of edge lift is when patients feel the edges of the lenses every time they blink. One way to test this is by having the patient pull their lids away. If the lens feels better when not blinking, there may be edge lift. For providers, you can check for leaks by applying NaF dye to the eye - if it pools quickly in a particular meridian you likely have edge lift. You can also check for a shadow (see arrow) As for the pictured lens… adjusting these edges downward is a no brainer!” Repost @drseifeyes
